Yeah, Italy did that after migrants invaded the Spanish territory in Africa (pretty sure Meloni didn't realise it was actually in Africa, cuz she kept insisting they broke into the Schengen).

Fancy tooltips that use popover and anchor positioning are great. But sometimes all you need is a trustworthy title HTML attribute for a text-only tooltip. 😭 Only problem is: it can't be styled! Do you want these tooltips to be stylable? Maybe with a ::tooltip pseudo. Let me know your use cases!
A light pink box with the text Hover me inside it. A tooltip is displayed next to it, with the text I'm a sad little tooltip. Please style me.

YES‼️ Node needs this SO BAD! Half the APIs accept a file path, the other half accept a file URL string, and yet another half accept both and a URL instance, and god help you if you guess wrong (spoiler: silent 🤷‍♂️ failure).

Two switches as seen on iOS. The first one has a default green background. The second one has a custom background set by using CSS.

🤔
000
Jacob @jakob.jingleheimer.dev · 29/06/2026
Both receive all the conditions. The client looks for the client one and ignores anything it doesn't recognise; the server vice-versa. But to be clear, i'm not suggesting this should affect next behaviour—next would be blissfully ignorant of these; this is for the user to customise their own stuff.
100
Jacob @jakob.jingleheimer.dev · 29/06/2026
Why would this not work? node --conditions=next-client-local --conditions=next-server-remote --run dev

> we could invent prefixes, but that snowballs Yeah, that's what i mean with helping would just make things worse. Users can figure out what works for them.
100
Jacob @jakob.jingleheimer.dev · 29/06/2026
Next COULD help with this, but i think it doesn't have to (and helping would probably just get in the way of something we don't think of). For instance, setting multiple conditions with prefixed values would work for that problem.
000
Jacob @jakob.jingleheimer.dev · 29/06/2026
Unless i'm missing something: However the user designs it. That's not next's problem.
100
Jacob @jakob.jingleheimer.dev · 29/06/2026
😆 "two processes in a trenchcoat" > is forwarding all conditions the right design choice for this? I think yes because the user is in full control of the input and its consumption; so as long as next doesn't consume them too (the user can probably work around), the limits are the user's design.
100
Jacob @jakob.jingleheimer.dev · 29/06/2026
Are you thinking specifically related to conditional import subpath? I think in general, conditions are just flags. If one flag will cause a problem in A… don do that? In prod, set different conditions? They're not hard-coded.
100
Jacob @jakob.jingleheimer.dev · 29/06/2026
Next could do some jiggery-pokery like with env vars (prefixes). I wasn't aware of the effectively 2 processes under the hood. 🤔 I think even still, this isn't a problem next really needs to rigidly solve—I think it's something users can sort themselves (perhaps next might recommend x, y, or z).
100
Jacob @jakob.jingleheimer.dev · 29/06/2026
conditions is a list, so a user can supply N-number of them; values are also arbitrary, so you could set the value to something like 'client-local' (instead of just 'local'). But also, that's a user problem, not a next problem (the next problem is "get out of the way" 😅).
100
Jacob @jakob.jingleheimer.dev · 29/06/2026
@danabra.mov next currently strips out nodejs conditions, breaking any cleverness in pjson subpath imports eg `node --conditions=local --run dev`. It's otherwise great for local offline dev, substituting a module with remote service calls. Any chance you can get next to stop bungling it?
