The UK should worry about actually meeting EU accession criteria first. And a long lasting an profound desire by the British electorate to join. Joining the EU is a lengthy process that any future government could end at any time. So, why would the EU even bother if there is no clear mandate?

Why? The UK is the begging party, not the EU. The UK has zero leverage, so why assume the EU would give the UK 'whatever'. There is no need for the EU to give the UK anything. No ifs, no buts, no exceptions would even strengthen the EU cohesion.

Still on the same cherry picking strategy that failed ever since 1957.😂

Actually they mean 'made in the EU internal market'. That includes far more countries, like Iceland 😅, Switzerland, Norway etc. In fact, almost all European countries, but not the UK.

Brexit still means Brexit. No ifs, no buts, no exemptions, no special deals, no cherry picking.

"The time is overdue for a British prime minister to show the same clarity of purpose" True, but nobody in the UK government knows what it should look like. The UK only ever had one clear purpose: 'divide and conquer' . That strategy stopped functioning many decades ago.

A political target that countries all agreed to. France has lost its credibility. Which means that France has lost a lot of influence in the EU.

Not if you have been unable to get your deficit below the limit for decades, then it becomes a target. For decades all French politicians have considered it a target that they failed to deliver. 2026 is no different. The deficit will again be higher than last year and way above the 2026 target of 5%

Iran started the war against Israel in 1979 and escalated in the 1990's. Neither Trump nor Natanyahu started the war, Khamenei did.

I see only one solution: break up the UK and the individual countries joining the EU. That would result in a much more stable EU than when the UK would join as one nation.

Indeed, shutting the UK out is part of the solution for the EU and not the problem. If British companies want to be part of an EU supply chain, they should move to the EU.

I don't know the system in Sweden, but if they don't register their citisens, or if they don't register their nationality, there is no way the Swedish government could reach individual British citisens. They do in the Netherlands, so it was easy for them.

Nee, het is weer platteland tegen de stad. Plattelanders zijn bang voor hun visserij. Stedelingen kijken meer naar andere risico's als Trump, de munt en handel.

In reality there are only problems reported on 20 out of 7000 border crossings. The system works near perfect.

France is right. The UK only participates because it is certain it will get more out than it pays in. That is not how it should work. Either totally in, or totally out. No cherry picking.

The queues will disappear. Once registered, you will not have to register again for three years. Passing the border will even be faster than before the system was introduced. It simply takes time to get all the regular visitors registered on their first visit.

Putin is calling it a war with NATO to explain why his 3 day special operation in Ukraine has still not ended in a victory. And yet NATO has not even shown up to the fight yet.😂

So does the EU. And they moved forward fast on subjects the UK used to veto, like common debt. Why would they want a 'Victor Orban' back?

Mijn generatie kreeg op de lagere school nog te horen dat de volgende ijstijd al 'over tijd' was en vermoedelijk binnen 10 jaar al zou plaatsvinden. "Wees voorbereid op een veel koude klimaat." Het kan verkeren.

Just like the first time the UK tried to go alone, productivity growth in the UK is already falling behind that of the EU. In the 70's that ended up in a massive 50% lower productivity after 20 years of going alone.

LOL, as if joining the EU is like flipping a switch. The UK does not even meet EU accession criteria, never able to. Just lucky to be already in before they were introduced. Joining will take the UK at least a decade, probably longer.😂

Italy is a source of political stability, the UK took over its reputation of being the most politically unstable country in Europe ever since 2020. What happened in 2020 to create such a political mess??🙂

It started in 1957 when the UK decided it would be better off with its own commonwealth outside the EEC. Nothing changed in 69 years.

Nope, because the mortgage interest rate goes up faster. You can borrow less and that is driving the fall in house prices.

Nothing ever changes in Britain. The UK has been trying to cherry pick ever since 1957. Reality kicked in in 1973 and has left the building again in 2016. This is just more of the same.

Before Brexit the UK vetoed EU import tariffs on Chinese steel in return for Chinese money to build Hinkley point. The European commission remembers how the UK behaved.

The UK has been trying to cherry pick the EEC/EU ever since 1957 and failed each and every time. The fact that the UK keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over again proves that the UK is still stuck in naval gazing.

Not just that. Germany is at least ten years behind in digital infrastructure. Still using a fax, cash money, physical banks, physical paperwork etc. Completely forgot to modernize the economy, relying on old technology instead.

The French are stupid. First they block Macron from reforming the economy with 'yellow vests' in streets for months. Then they demand compensation for Covid, the Unions go on strike because of the pension reforms and at the end they blame Macron for not reforming the economy and overspending.

The new Fed Chair is just one vote. The old Fed chair remains and is also one vote, and that vote probably still has more weight than the new Fed Chair. He is unable to deliver his master's bidding, even if he wanted to.

Indeed, which is why French farmers are always angry. French standards are higher (=more expensive), but cheaper products enter France that are conform to EU standards.

Indeed, that is a no-go for the EU. Most British still think the EU is only about trade. As long as that perception remains, the British population will always be disappointed.
