Implementation-wise, it's written in Go. There's no frontend framework. The server sends HTML to your browser (the way God intended). JavaScript is minimal—I think under 50 KB gzipped—and most of that is actually just the list of stations so the search drop-down works client-side.

I've only really tested this in an Android simulator though so you'll have to let me know if it works. PWAs aren't very well supported or documented so there was a lot of trial and error.

It's a "progressive web app" which means you should be able to add it to your home screen and it'll sort of behave like a real app. Android users, if you accept cookies & refresh, an install button should appear on the home page. iOS doesn't support that so it just gives you instructions.

I must emphasise that it's not a journey planner, i.e., it only does direct trains, not changes. And it only looks 30 mins ahead. The use case is when you're near/at a station and many trains go to your destination (particularly useful at busy stations like Waterloo and Clapham Junction).

I think it’s really important to understand that LLMs cannot, themselves, take over the world, inflict pain, or cause catastrophic damage. It is the people using them. It’s men. It’s always men.

I've open-sourced a Go caching library I've been working on. It does request coalescing (duplicate call suppression). It's like a blend of sync.Map and singleflight.Group. github.com/jakewright/g...

A few months ago Apple stopped releasing iOS 18 updates for devices that support iOS 26. But I knew if I waited it out they’d be forced to issue security updates eventually. 😼 Be warned though that this update re-enables automatic updates!

Yeah I kinda suspect they won't fit side-by-side. Tapo could work but would need to daisy chain it to another extension lead. I'm trying to plug 16 things into a double wall socket and want about 5 of them to be "smart". 🫠

I’d get Zigbee/Matter ones so no huge concern on the network front. Good point about heat though. Could probably do 3 instead of 6; evenly spaced 🤔

Those network-controlled PDUs are expensive. Is there any reason why I shouldn't just buy a bunch of cheap IKEA smart plugs and do this?

MIDI 1.0 is the gold standard for protocols. Introduced in 1983, still fit for purpose 43 years later. You can take a synth or a drum machine from the 80s, connect it to a brand new keyboard or controller, and it’ll just work. 👏

I have long believed that tech companies tend to over-hire. I expect we’ll continue to see redundancies and layoffs attributed to “AI” but these will either be (a) due to misplaced confidence in the abilities of AI, or (b) because the company had too many employees in the first place.
