Today’s lunch note. I cannot believe it took me this long to draw Battra, his favorite kaiju. Anyway, happy Book Fair week.

Today’s lunch note. It is Casey’s birthday today, and so Dalton & I will be celebrating the most important mother in our lives. Happy Birthday to the Mothra to our Godzilla & Battra.

Today’s lunch note, a sequel to yesterday’s. Dalton came home from school and asked me why nobody showed up to Ghidorah’s birthday party. This is my effort to rectify that.

Am now fully caught up with Slow Horses through the Season 6 premiere, and can now watch new episodes as soon as they drop, just like I assume everyone else here has been doing. (And if not you should, it’s the best show streaming right now.)

Went to the post office, USPS employee complimented my shirt. Asked her if she liked the film, she said she wasn’t familiar. I said it was an animated Japanese film from the 70s, she said she was gonna find it and watch it. I wished her the best.

Finished Season 3 of Slow Horses, my favorite yet. Primo spycraft comfort streaming series. Oldman is a gas, Lowden giving us a nice long windup before Bond, but it was especially great to see Sope Dirisu, who was the best thing about the two seasons of Gangs of London I watched.

NEON GENESIS EVANGELION 💚 Now playing on the Criterion Channel! The boundary-pushing franchise that propelled anime to new heights of psychological, moral, and philosophical complexity remains a landmark of both adventurous visual storytelling and profound existential inquiry.

Today’s lunch note. Breaking format because we watched a Coyote vs. Road Runner short last night, and Wile E. popped a miffed expression on his face that made Dalton laugh for several minutes. This is my effort to replicate it:

Today’s lunch note. Dalton learned about Humpty Dumpty in school yesterday; it’s a shame Humpty Dumpty couldn’t anticipate the dreaded Orga from Godzilla 2000.

On the one hand, I’m glad the series’ copaganda has been toned down (cop dog Chase only gets a few lines). On the other hand, I don’t think it was wise of PAW Patrol to introduce humans to the island with the last dinosaurs on earth, as their extinction is now all but guaranteed.

Jake Tropila @jaketropila.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

One of Dalton’s friends is having a movie theater birthday party. So I am now seated for PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie.

Was made aware of a guy on Etsy who makes custom jewel cases for blu-ray boxsets. Ordered a Showa Era one for our Godzilla discs and it’s great! Love that Showa Era set but am not a fan of the cardboard disc slots, so it’s nice to have an alternative.
