We aren't done. We still have neighbours to protect.

Minnesota showed us how it's done. We are not done. We are only starting to understand what organised resistance is and what it can do. There is SO MUCH that still needs protecting. Neighbours, systems, and institutions that must be preserved and rebuilt. Keep going. It's working.

And not just for the shooters. Also for illegal detentions, illegal search and seizure, violence against peaceful protesters, and any other illegal action.

This is a great start, but Minnesota and the rest of us must still be vigilant, active, and committed to nonviolent direct action. We must still defend our neighbours against the remaining ICE presence, provide safe havens, warn people of raids, etc. What started in Minnesota works. KEEP GOING.

Actually, something like 70% of those stationed abroad are in Germany, Japan, and South Korea--none of which have jus soli. Italy, Spain, the UK, Guam (Americans anyway), Bahrain, Belgium, and Turkey--all the next biggest hosts--also do not have it. Most military kids don't have dual citizenship.

Of course, some of us are born dual citizens or are Americans who obtained other citizenships . . . .

There is evidence that commenting on social media can have significant effects, particularly on lurkers. You aren't going to change a hardened MAGA mind, but by presenting rational, reasoned, and evidence-based arguments, you can influence lurkers pretty significantly.

Wondering why, instead of just talking to Abrego Garcia, Van Hollen didn’t bring him home. El Salvador Canberra bribed to take him; surely they can be bribed to release him.

The MAGA Machine relies on compliance. Military at the border? Soldiers can shut it down. Logging at National Forests? Logging employees can refuse to cut. But each action costs the individual long before it has a cumulative effect, and each seems ineffectual and small, so people don't bother.

Resistance is active. And it will cost us. Are you willing to make good trouble?

jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 31/03/2025
Resistance means taking action. We are not yet so far gone that turning up the way they are in Istanbul is dangerous. We are not yet at Tiananmen Square’s massacre. But if we don’t show up now, that’s where we’re headed. The people in those places showed up despite the risk. We can do the same.

jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 30/03/2025
Watch some older TV--80s and 90s--and you can see how far round the bend the US has gone. All the progress we have made and all the ways that progress has been and is being erased. How well or poorly things aged, what we accomplished and where we failed. Or go further back. Same observations.

I don’t want to say it, but worse things are coming. Until people quit obeying illegal orders, all the judges‘ injunctions in the world will be meaningless. Unless people physically stop abuses, they won’t cease. Filming or putting on blast is a start—documentation is needed—but it isn’t enough.

Maybe all those America First people can pay attention now that it’s American lives being put at risk rather than just, you know, the lives lost to genocide in Gaza, human shields in Ukraine, detained immigrants, and people in countries vulnerable to climate change catastrophes.

Telling us that Trump is a felon and shouldn’t be in charge of things isn’t helpful. We knew and elected him anyway. You aren’t changing anyone’s mind by reminding us of his cheating, lying, first term shenanigans, etc. Focus on documenting new crimes and resisting illegal activities.

Welcome to autocracy. The Republic we have known for the last 240 years is gone. This is going to keep getting worse. Much worse. The courts mean nothing, the law means nothing, Congress is irrelevant. He is a malignant psychopath.

Took a few days off to detox, enjoyed the half time show that wasn't made for me, and now I am ready to get back to it. In case you missed it, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is now hosting medical data no longer available from the CDC. This is what resistance looks like.

Remember. It’s never: We fight for (these people) because maybe we’re more at risk if we don’t. No more Niemölling. We fight because they are coming for anyone. Every single person matters. Each and every human being’s life and safety is worth the fight.

Nope, and all of you are complicit. You act as though you made some noble gesture. You made an empty gesture, and the people of Gaza will be just as f*cked--or more so as we are learning.

They did hear; but they weren't going to campaign on the issue. They knew, but they weren't going to win on that issue. They knew those protesters weren't going to vote at all, so why campaign on it and lose people who would vote for sure? And we know that they did NOT have great polling and data.

jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
In a democracy it is your job. And if you don't, who will? In a democracy, the leaders reflect the people; they don't convince them. By not voting, you capitulated. You gave up every chance to change the outcome.
110
jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
You aren't voting for genocide. You would have been voting for the power to still change the outcome--for Gaza and for everyone else. Now you have no power, and neither does anyone else. You actively hindered your cause. Cut off your nose to spite your face.

jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
They don't know why you didn't show up. For all they know or care, you were stoned. They didn't hear that you were concerned about Gaza. And now even those who might have heard no longer have the ability to do anything about it because the Republicans are out to break everything and have the votes.

jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
Those are also how you move the party to the left if that's what you want--on one issue or on many. By campaigning and speaking because that's the language people running for office speak and hear. All of them.
000
jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
Money flows uphill because we keep electing people who don't regulate that shit. You want more power? Take it back by showing up. Help is great, but power helps more. Next time (if there is one), be active in the primaries, in promoting other parties, etc. Then when it's down to two, pick one.
000
jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
And no, it isn't one as bad as the other. Of course, we're assuming there will be another election--by no means a certainty thanks to people like you. Your one-issue voting choice helps no one and hurts everyone, including those most affected by your one issue.
100
jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
You should support the Dems (in a general election) because a) they aren't the biggest culprits, and b) somebody is going to win, and Republicans are worse by orders of magnitude. Change it how? Run for office. Campaign in primaries. Educate potential voters on the issues. Contact your reps.

You put a lot out there, then shrugged and said “f it, that didn’t work“. You also said that at the expense of your fellow human beings in the US and around the world. All because you couldn’t be bothered with learning to be a big government office guy. In other words, lazy.

jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
Speaking all the right words but not acting in love is just a clanging cymbal. You failed to act. You are culpable. But hey, there's hope--you can act now.
100
jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
If you don't work to change the system from within, you can't just blame the system for existing. Your failure to act is on you--and it will hurt millions. You are culpable then, and your best bet now is to work to bolster your cause within the system we have left while we still have one.

jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
Classic--I am not responsible because, well, I don't want to be held accountable for my actions (or inaction). Did you run for office? Campaign or phone bank in the primaries? Contact your representatives at every level? Take out ads, go on radio shows, send a letter to the editor?
100
jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
You aren’t obligated to vote, but not doing so is voting for the bad guy. You are partly to blame for everything that happens in Palestine now, just as you are partly to blame for everything that happens in the US. And if you think they were equivalent, you are as stupid as you are culpable.
100
jakepe.bsky.social @jakepe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
Your inaction and indifference are the problem. Your lack of vote led to Trump‘s win—which you knew because one of them was always going to win. So yeah, you share the blame, both at home and in Palestine.
