What happens when nitrogen deposition enters the phyllosphere? As with everything, I think microbes are the answer. We just finished a field experiment using isotope tracing to test whether phyllosphere microbes on urban oak seedlings are involved in the uptake of deposited nitrogen

Biological invasions are among the most pressing ecological concerns of the Anthropocene. We're pleased to present our latest #VirtualIssue: Linked plant–fungal invasions: nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/toc/10.1... Edited by Ian A. Dickie, Marc-André Selosse and Maarja Öpik. #PlantScience
Cover of the New Phytologist Virtual Issue: Linked plant–fungal invasions. Pinus contorta co-invasion with ectomycorrhizal and antagonistic fungi into the iconic grasslands of Aotearoa New Zealand, with Aoraki Mt Cook in the background.

Have you checked our new paper in @biolinvasions.bsky.social? We tested #InvasionalMeltdown between invasive #Fungi and #InvasivePlants using #Suillus and #Pine species across an invasiveness gradient—and found that invasive Suillus only boost invasive pines. 🔗 link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Evidence for invasional meltdown in plant-fungal co-invasions - Biological Invasions
Invasive symbiotic fungi have been transported around the world, but their role in the shaping of ecosystems is not fully understood. We experimentally tested whether the invasiveness of ectomycorrhiz...

www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... 🌿 Excited to share our Primer on fungal endophytes, the elusive members of the fungal kingdom that defy easy classification. Neither pathogens nor symbionts in the strict sense, they challenge how we define ecological guilds. @umr-iam.bsky.social

Organisms are commonly grouped into ecological guilds that reflect their shared resource use and similar ecological roles. The guild concept has been …

So excited to share our new collaborative paper on the ecosystem impacts of pine-fungal co-invasions into eucalypt forests published in @newphyt.bsky.social! Many impacts are interconnected and dependent on pine size 🌲🍄 nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/share/RZJ6B9...
