some of my thoughts on Dolly 🦋

Even with the inevitability, this doesn’t feel real. I’ve cried, but my god the tributes have made the tears of sadness transform into joy and laughter. And that’s what Dolly would want. You can practically hear her telling us all to wipe away the sadness and enjoy life.

I can’t think of a single moment I’ve ever seen her sad, outside of her film performances and of course within the heartbreak of her music. Personified light in every sense of it. Her unbreakable wit alongside a constant giving, nurturing energy.

This is all in concert with the completely breathtaking, incomporable discography she has. There are so many songs I haven’t even heard, yet the ones so many of us cherish will remain locked inside of us until we meet the same end. She’s as close to immortal as anyone could be, and that’s because of the way she lived.

Her passing feels like a momentary dimming of her light, but there is simply nobody like her and there never will be.
