I don't know who needs to hear this, but you don't need to justify your reading preferences and choices to anyone. Audiobooks count as reading. Also, you don't have to finish books you don't enjoy. Don't read to impress, read for yourself. Life's too short, love yourself, ok? Signed, a librarian

My November reads!!! I never thought I'd be able to read 8 books in one month. 2 more than October. I'm not going to keep trying to one up myself as I need to remember to stay present and enjoy the experience of reading. But this is definitely a proud moment.

I'm on Act 3 and...IT HAS ME IN A CHOKEHOLD. I love Tingle's nod to his previous book, this book's cover design, and the fact that Misha's own creations are haunting him. Makes me wonder......does this book haunt Chuck? 👁

Somehow still found the strength to read a few pages before knocking out last night. I'm not losing my Fable reading streak lol

Got to see a few Raqib Shaw pieces in-person at The Huntington. Wow. Intensely intricate and incredibly stunning. Now to save up the money to buy one....

Started reading Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri a couple nights ago. That first story got me GOOD 🥲. What a way to start a collection of short stories. The 2nd didn't grip me as hard but the 3rd did. I'm excited to read the rest!!

If Demon can get to the other side of what he went through, so can I. #demoncopperhead

I'm so glad Percival Everett won the National Book Award for James. Well deserved.

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever. #books #reading #booksky #poetry

A poem by Langston Hughes titled "Tired". It reads as the following:

"I am so tired of waiting,
Aren't you,
For the world to become good
And beautiful and kind?
Let us take a knife
And cut the world in two --
And see what worms are eating
At the rind."

Reading: Demon Copperhead (Kingsolver) Heading into chapter 21, I'm so relieved Demon is with the McCobbs. I don't know how long he'll be there but at least he's (kind of) safe for once. I hate that he has food insecurity but at least he isn't forced to do manual labor. It's a bittersweet tradeoff.

*pssssst* Hey You know that one project? That one you've wanted to write FOREVER except it's scary as hell & maybe you don't feel good enough or brave enough or strong enough? Spend 15 min on it today Keep the dream alive Even a pot on the back burner needs to occasionally be stirred

I finally got a library card a week ago and it's brought me so much joy. FREE BOOKS. For three weeks. You can check out a max of 100 books at once. INCREDIBLE.

Since moving here from the hellscape that is X, my feed is somehow now full of posts about how awesome libraries are and I am HERE FOR IT! Support your local libraries, they provide a warm space safe for everyone and the free gift of knowledge!

Sometimes you gotta put that book down. Even if it's a classic. Yes, I had to stop reading 1984 last night...I KNOW. But it's too intense a read right now and the prose is quite difficult to get through.

I love the library. Turned in three books and picked up three more. And yes, I already had a pile at home. THIS IS SO FUN.

Three books laid out. Outline by Rachel Cusk, Julia by Sandra Newman, and Sula by Toni Morrison.

I’ll be staying inside books for the next four years. At least their villains are contained to a page.
