I hate with a passion every time I see people in authority act as though withdrawing treatment is ethically neutral. Imagine if they did this with chemo, hip replacements, organ transplants... if a review was needed (I don't believe it is) they wouldn't pause until there was evidence of harm.

Unless it’s with a client, I usually say “I have a hard stop at X”. It’s strange that that has to be said when the call has an end time…

You can see from here in the U.K. the damage that is caused when both main political parties agree on this issue. The media only presents the “acceptable” debate as being the issues the parties disagree on. Everything else is “extreme”, even though trans inclusion was the law 18 months ago.

Definitely least worst of the options. What's going to be a bit odd is she'll be responsible for a lot of the scrutiny of her own proposed abusive conversion practices "ban". bsky.app/profile/jake...

Wasn't that long ago that Farage, Jenrick, and Reform were condemning political violence after the death of Ann Widdecombe? How quickly that changes when the victim has different political colours.

Do they mean *that* Starship Troopers? The one that's a satire of fascism and authoritarianism, with uniforms based on the actual nazis? They've taken that as a serious suggestion? Irony is dead.
Zoomed in screenshot. It says "Design inspiration. Inspired by the discipline and functionality of the starship trooper uniform."

This is a really tough one, and I would understand and hold nothing against anyone who leaves for this reason. Especially true when paying for membership. However, given the goal of the transphobes is to *remove* trans people from public life, leaving feels like giving them the victory they want.

Piracy also keeps it a culturally relevant thing. The best thing is for it to go unwatched and forgotten regardless of the financial angle.

A literal locked door with the words “inclusive” on it just says everything. Add it to the list alongside “dignity and respect”.

A high profile resignation on Burnham's first day in Parliament as PM facing the opposition. He must be thankful for the party unity and public service from Starmer 🙃

Kier Starmer resigns as an MP on Burnham's first day in Parliament as PM. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

I hear "lanyard class" a lot from the right wing press. I went to one of their career websites. Imagine my shock and horror when I saw lanyards.
A workplace photo from the News Corp UK & Ireland Limited careers website. There are at least lanyards clearly visible in the photo.

I think they are just being intentionally dense. The FWS judgement itself is literally new and the law, given how the English common law system works. I’m sure they’ll feel the same if/when there’s an ECtHR judgement and it’s applied via the Human Rights Act… right?

The UK government's argument to the ECtHR in I v The United Kingdom (where prisons and hospital wards were partly argued) is no longer true. It's amazing how far back we've regressed so quickly. hudoc.echr.coe.int/spa#{%22item...
A screenshot from the government's argument to the ECtHR in I v The United Kingdom. It says "48. As regards the specific difficulties claimed by the applicant, the Government submitted that she was able to live a female social role, free from State interference. There was no statutory or case-law restriction on the applicant dressing as she chose. She has been able to change her names. Were she to be sentenced to a term of imprisonment, the question of whether she would be held in a male or a female prison would be dealt with on the basis of what would be appropriate to the individual circumstances of her case. In the case of hospitalisation, it would be for the hospital staff to determine where she should be accommodated. The Government noted that on the basis of the applicant's appearance and social identity, she would be likely to be placed on a female ward and that it would be unlikely that the hospital would see or be influenced by her birth certificate."

I expect they'll say some behaviour is "not harassment" leading the reader to infer it is lawful. That seams to be the EHRC's style at the moment.

When all the posts are filled, I need to go through and see how many ministers signed EDM 240. Time to remind them how collective responsibility works and what they are supporting.

I do still hold out hope that maybe you can nudge for change from within, but we haven't seen evidence Burnham intends to change direction on this issue. So let me be clear. Collective responsibility cuts both ways, and the trans community is watching.

Might be a good business. 💰🧙‍♀️💰 Put on a white coat and a stethoscope to be "similar". From what I've seen from smarter people, that might still be a crime under other legislation. However, the courts might take the view that Parliament decided in this draft bill (if it became law) to allow that.

Jake @jake2500.com · 20/07/2026
Yes, the exception includes abusive practices. It says those are "not a conversion practice unless [...] that falls far below the standards reasonably expected of a person in their position". So if they aren't even a "conversion practice", they can't be an "abusive conversion practice".

Jake @jake2500.com · 20/07/2026

I think interesting context for the "Expanded meaning of medical" section is how the FGM ban has a medical exception. It's defined in much tighter terms. Only covers registered medical practitioners & excludes "mental health" for a "matter of custom or ritual" www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2003/3...
