jake @jake.fun · 11/04/2025Look at these MCPs. JSONs are so popular right now. I love visiting HTTPs. Did you get my latest words? 071
jake @jake.fun · 20/03/2025recommendation algos are based on my behavior not my desire. if anything they make it harder for me to access my desire and pollute my decision making. they show you how you behave, not what you want. behavior can be coerced. 071
jake @jake.fun · 19/03/2025design is not the way things look. development is not the way things function. 080
jake @jake.fun · 17/03/2025Kind of a fun one to revisit from the deep archives. Using Sass functions to generate CSS custom properties with raw fallbacks in 2016. We've come so far...but also in so many ways we have not. codepen.io/jak_e/post/c... 030
jake @jake.fun · 15/03/2025been trying very hard to utilize ai creatively in some coding endeavors. it’s really good at getting me excited to board and then it strands me on islands with no way home. building by hand, with all its limitations, at the very least comes with an oar and a canoe. i’ve never felt more limited. 270
jake @jake.fun · 03/03/2025CC can only read the component property layer and does not have read access to the style layer (variables or raw values). It also cannot modify your design file at all. Plugins are often used to create and modify items inside of Figma programmatically. Design linting is something I'm interested in!! 100
jake @jake.fun · 03/03/2025A new variant in Figma still requires engineering in code, not just for the property, but style too. Similarly, CC can't modify the design via code. CC doesn't replace DS engineering, it makes the DS easier to use for devs who have a lot of code to implement. LMK if that's unclear! 110
jake @jake.fun · 03/03/2025Code Connect isn't bi-directional. It translates component language in Figma to the expected code component language which is often similar but unique. Knowing which configuration of which component you're looking at can be a challenge for many devs consuming a design file. CC simplifies this. 110
jake @jake.fun · 03/03/2025my favorite thing about prompt to code in 2025 is when it generates "© 2024. All rights reserved." in the footer. 050

jake @jake.fun · 28/12/2024ai sends me down rabbit holes that don't even exist while it hurls our planet into the sun. 070
jake @jake.fun · 26/12/2024there’s having an idea and hiring ppl to see what they come up with. then there’s building exactly what you want to see. working with ai today is the former not the latter. 050
jake @jake.fun · 22/12/2024Honestly, as shocking as Claude can be, it's just not there yet. I wrote good code originally, then spent all day yesterday polluting it with generated code trying to make it more sophisticated, and am now pulling it all back out to write the complex bits myself. Exhausting. 040

jake @jake.fun · 01/12/2024there are still many folks doing authoritative and respectable work, i just can’t help but feel we have swapped out a sense of community that naturally rises out of shared curiosity and awe for transactional relationships that require continual renewal and appeasement. 150
jake @jake.fun · 01/12/2024i don’t know how to prove it but i’m convinced the idea of web “community” has shifted over the past decade from people exploring the immense wealth of the net together to a select few anointing their own authority and accumulating followings by slinging transient hot takes. 150
jake @jake.fun · 01/12/2024my flavor of adhd is hard because stillness is not restful. getting in the groove is fulfilling but can lead to overwork. once i’m focused, creating space to redirect my energy is overwhelming and always abrupt. 2110

jake @jake.fun · 30/11/2024trying to leverage ai to make my coding life easier but still can’t shake the sense that i’m introducing bugs when generating anything larger than a function. refactoring is where i need it most but that’s also where i trust it the least due to my experiences thus far. 250
