I think it would be okay to pillory people sometimes.

A hilarious thing about where I live is that a lot of my suggesteds on IG are guys who were in late 80s/early 90s krshnacore bands in nyc who are now up here in their second acts as yoga instructors.

Ok, this leaves me needing to ask a question. When I started reading the big Dozois (rip) book in college I set up e-subscriptions to Asimovs and Analog that I've had for years without thinking about it. As a writer, do you recommend that I, as a reader, continue to subscribe or cancel?

It's such a wonderful story. I hope it's ok, I grabbed it from Marie Claire:
"About 10 years ago, Katy Perry was talking to me about the internet armies of all the girl singers, and how cruel and rancid they were," Nicks explained.

"I said, 'Well, I wouldn’t know because I’m not on the internet.' She said, 'So, who are your rivals?' I just looked at her. It was my steely look. I said, 'Katy, I don’t have rivals. I have friends. All the other women singers that I know are friends. Nobody’s competing. Get off the internet and you won’t have rivals either.'"

If it's anything like waking up after major surgery it would have been very gradual and (if my experience is common) pretty sub-intellectual and mostly sense based. I bet I was awake an hour or so before I really had thoughts.

probably raised awareness of the brand, which is all an agency can claim to do. But I can't imagine them driving sales (which agencies do NOT promise to do anyway). Anyways I'm not sure whose ended up being the final but another animator and I passed the endcard animation back and forth for weeks.

They weren't good per se but they were very inexpensive, took very little time and delivered the pitch quickly and without embarrassment to anyone. LM put the account in review and whoever's had it since is responsible for both iterations of biberty and the emu. Being stranger or more annoying...

Hilariously Liberty Mutual has made worse ads as they've spent more and put more effort into it. I freelanced at the agency studio that did the original standing by the harbor with the statue in the bg ads. Literally shot in a conference room with a greenscreen hung on a wall.

New York, I knew the city to where I knew where I was even when I didn't know where I was. 20 years into living 120 miles north I can get places for sure but I don't know it-know it here.

Huh, I never heard that about Jefferson! The quote I always liked was 'It is a damn poor mind that can think of only one way to spell a word.' which was the loathsome Jackson.

Oh my gosh I get to be that guy! Third picture (lower left) is Ghent. The brick building has great pastry. The second house is supposedly James Ivory's. He definitely lives around there but that's the house everyone says is his.

and while I recognize that it may be unfair to sellers in some instances, it's nowhere near as bad as it is for those who are on the other side of the deal.

It's not fair that you deal with the cumulative frustration of, say, my having to pay for adobe 365 days a year whether I'm working for money or not, or paying to print stickers and then getting mash notes six times a day about stickerportunities. That's not special pleading or collective punishment

is on the wrong side of the fence in the ecosystem. It's the bad apples argument. I can recognize that TPM, or the wildflower seed website I use, or Lionel Train Monthly are individually ok and that the exchanges are individually worthwhile. The problem is that you're in a barrel of rotten fruit.

They're deriving value from any transaction they participate in and increasingly their counterparts get nothing of real value. It's too bad when a publication offers a reasonable proposition about access to its articles and has trouble getting traction. But that's because that publication

and the frustration is cumulative. At this point, normal software offers endless come-ons *during normal use* to license other software or advanced features. The frustration with paywalls is that there's nothing we can deny the companies on the other side of the screen.

end up with the receipt of endless enticements to upgrade to games, upgrade to cooking, upgrade to the athletic. Buy a hammer at Lowe's and you will know exactly what's going on at Lowe's for the rest of your life. Sure, there's no money being exchanged but these interactions are extractive

Everything here is absolutely true. What's unsaid, though, is that whoever's fault it is, every single transaction online is now a subscription. Even a simple exchange of money for goods is liable to result in a consumer ending up on multiple mailing lists. Subscriptions to the Times, say, will

Look, none of us want to think about it but the big P (Progressive) needs a defense and succession plan in case of Flosassination and in this case Jamie is meant to discourage anti-Flo sentiment and attacks by being a visible, worse alternative to the regime.

There's an irl version on this I love. When Bowie and Lennon were first friends, Lennon brought McCartney to visit Bowie. Having just finished a record Bowie was eager to share it. Once. Twice. Three times. At which point McCartney asked, "Don't you have any other records?"

I'm not saying the mystery of the tripartite god is an easy one to contemplate but at the very least it made me very aware of one thing. When they came for him and tortured him to death, despite being god, with powers, Christ didn't fight back. He is not a "muscular" Christ in any way.
