I’ve even gone as far as scoping out potential immigration methods…

Sure was!! Forgive me if I’m repeating myself, but I feel weirdly homesick for the place. I was only there fourteen days!

I’ll bet autumn is stunning in Cape Breton. Are there any quirky local phrases for when it gets really cold? Over here, we’d say ‘It’s pure Baltic!’ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 If it gets super cold, the ‘pure’ is substituted for a wee sweary word…

A completely deserted Sanaigmore beach on the Isle of Islay on a warm summer’s evening. Nothing for company but the exhausted waves of the Atlantic Ocean lapping gently onto the sand. Time to schedule another visit… 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 #photography #landscape #Scotland #Islay #mindfulness #wellbeing #calm

As someone not long returned from a holiday in Nova Scotia, just keep being Canadian - you are wonderful, wonderful people to an individual. I’m already plotting my next visit… 🇨🇦 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

It’s definitely one of the things about living in the Highlands. Loads of rain to keep the place looking beautiful and green, but then it also means you really enjoy the days when the weather is nice.

Glad to hear it ☺️ Aye a good day here too. Lovely weather and a great day for enjoying the bike.

How about eating? Can you manage anything or is it absolutely a no go?

Liam Ward @jag1876.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Sounds like a hell of a bug you’ve got. A double whammy not getting to see the wee fella too. Hopefully it will pass quickly. Keep the fluids up and keep yourself cosy. Sorry it’s not much consolation 😞 Any temperature with it or aches and pains?

There’s got to be a bit of you that loves the fact you know places on the island they don’t. And I bet it’s such a nice sanctuary knowing that they’re pretty much all yours.

I’d give my right arm for Canadian citizenship. I was out in Nova Scotia last month for a fortnight and had the time of my life. For the first time after a holiday, I feel homesick for somewhere that’s never been my home. What a wonderful country you have over there 🇨🇦 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Just a wee flyer for you this time then eh? It’s not just the quality when you get it there. It’s also the supporting local business and that you develop actual, meaningful relationships with them. When I was in Aberfoyle for a few years, I was never out of the butcher/deli there. Phenomenal!!

Safe drive up the road when you do head up. I used to like the occasional day on Skye when the weather was horrific but I didn’t need to go out and was cosy inside the house. There was almost something magical about it. I’m next due out Kyle way a week on Tuesday, so I’m looking forward to that.

I’ve been to Jura a couple of times over the years, but stupidly haven’t been up the Paps (cue childish giggle). It’s a lovely wee island and very much to Islay what Raasay is to Skye, but on an even smaller scale. Feels really unspoilt.

Liam Ward @jag1876.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Almost certainly. Definitely a case of not reading the room there eh?

What a sky!!

Liam Ward @jag1876.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
My favourite place on Islay is Sanaigmore bay. Even in the height of summer, you’ve got a reasonable chance of getting the whole beach to yourself and all you can hear is the gentle rolling of the waves. Heaven on Earth!

Liam Ward @jag1876.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Ahhh, that one! I had read about that right enough.

Liam Ward @jag1876.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Ha ha!! I’ll need to look into that. I’d move back to Skye tomorrow if it was viable. It’ll always feel like home. I adore Islay too. Lots of family connections there, but it just isn’t feasible.

Yeah, I saw they had been out on Glasgow Green the other day. There’s a lot to feel ashamed of at the moment. I’ve never really considered the possibility of emigrating before, but I have found myself starting to look into it over the last couple of weeks.

Liam Ward @jag1876.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Or worse still, perhaps they know exactly. I despair at times.

Liam Ward @jag1876.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
It’s absolutely horrendous, isn’t it? I can’t understand the thought processes of some folk.

If you get the opportunity, you should. Islay is such a beautiful island. A really relaxed pace of life, very community orientated and welcoming. I try to get across every couple of years at least just for a full reset. It’s best in the summertime with the warmer weather of course.

The sound of water is one of my very favourite things. Great for helping with mindfulness. My favourite place is Sanaigmore beach on Islay in the Inner Hebrides. It can be the peak of summer, and you can find yourself completely alone on the beach listening to the sounds of nature.

It’s certainly not cheap, eh? It’s funny how some memories stay with you and you can’t quite work out why. I remember vividly going to see Robin Hood Prince of Thieves in the cinema when it came out and the ticket cost £1.25 I couldn’t tell you any other price of any ticket, but I can that one!

That is such a beautiful photograph. Wonderful colours on that tree. Here’s hoping you’ve had a cracker of a day too.

For me, the cinema was there, but we just didn’t have enough money growing up for it to be an ‘often’ experience. It was a really special treat to go and you really did make the most of it and enjoy the experience. There’s still nothing quite like going to see a movie on the big screen I think.
