As always, the deepest gratitude goes to the revolutionaries, activists, and journalists in the Myanmar borderworld who participated in this research. I am especially grateful to the cadres of RCSS/SSA, KNPP, KNU, KIO, PNLO, and PDFs for their support, encouragement, and ongoing friendship. 5/7

Working with EAOs such as the RCSS/SSA, KNPP, and the KNU, I learned that large businesses were sometimes strategically used to this end: as a show of commitment; pressure on the Myanmar Military to also honour the peace deal; a bargaining chip to maintain the symbiotic armed order. 4/7

Large business companies in the formal sector were used to show both lump-sum cost and instalment cost to show a constant, credible commitment — so that minor tensions don’t blow up into another death match. I call this blended costly signal a constant costly signal. 3/7

I argue that some EAOs developed what I call a symbiotic armed order - a state where conflict and cooperation co-exist simultaneously - with the Myanmar Military. They uno-reversed ceasefire incentives and pressures to credibly commit to the Military's armed order + strategically gain from it. 2/7
