Here is the version I recorded hastily in May 2011 with my guitar to send to some folks at SETI so they could hear the song ahead of an event, which was how I unearthed it from my gmail archives since we rarely recorded anything.

We also played a lot of covers, mostly Weird Al, Tom Lehrer, Jonathan Coulton. Oh! There’s also another version of this song where Charlie would literally sing the Drake Equation at the end of the song. And yeah, it was a real mouthful, but also hilarious.

We called ourselves Robot Ninja Apocalypse (RNA), & gather at the original Hacker Dojo firehouse after work, where we'd do all our songwriting and playing while hanging out with all our nerdy friends. Charlie and I would sing, and Ricky Wong @rickywong.bsky.social would do the best guitar solos.

In early 2011, the Allen Telescope Array (ATA) went dark due to lack of funding, and there was a crowdfunding campaign to bring the ATA back online. (This was back when I was a postdoc at NASA Ames Research Center.)
