Strider (1CC) I've been a big fan of this game for a long time and I'm so glad to finally be able to add it to the handful of arcade games I've 1CC'd. And I did it deathless too! The epitome of all killer and no filler and truly one of Capcom's all time classics!

Scammerhead I can't put my finger on why but for some reason at some points in this movie the acting and cinematography made me think of FMV adventure games. However I sincerely mean that in an affectionate way like I'm not saying the acting is bad at all. I had a good time watching this

Operation STEEL A rouge-lite shoot em up that actually plays like a shoot em up. What a concept! But for real tho with its wide variety of weapons and upgrades as well as some pretty slick music I had a good time with this overall. Also u can get a corgi companion that shoots enemies down

Pixel Game Maker Series Stray Witch and the Ghost Train This game makes me think of Kero Blaster thanks to its similar art style and using the same control scheme, but sadly its lack of weapons and overall polish prevent it from coming close to that game's heights. Still I had an decent time with it

Wario Land 4 (Hard and S Hard modes) While I've played through this many times it wasn't until now that I played the hard modes and I'm glad I did. The timer was actually as threatening as I felt it was the first time I played it long ago. Surprised they didn't raise the gold crown requirements tho

Ayo the Clown Pretty cute little linear 2D platformer. Aside from the wall jump feeling a bit awkward and the late game bosses dragging on a bit I cant think of any major gripes I have with this. The wide variety of level gimmicks help the game stay fresh til the end. I had a pleasant time with this

Dariusburst Another Chronicle EX+ I loved the burst system and being able to play as ships from previous games but the way they set up the screen for this port might cause issues from how zoomed out it is. Somehow I found it to be very playable but your milage will vary

Hulk (2003) I like the use of multiple panels in some scenes to try to replicate the look of a comic book and the cgi is well early 2000s cgi but I dig it. I love the color palette's heavy use of green until he starts hulking out. The acting is good and overall I'd say I had a good time watching it

Cute little bullet hell shooter from Alfa System. I like how the game incentivizes the player to constantly live on the edge by powering up their weapons and granting major score bonuses when close to bullets. The characters also feel pretty distinct from each other which is nice. Guud stuff

Earthion It's very cool to see a homebrew game made by a dev that actually made games for the console during It's lifetime in this case the Sega Genesis. Fantastic presentation, a stellar ost, a wide variety of subweapons, and being able to upgrade your ship between levels makes this a neat shooter

Daidassou A maze action game in which you rescue POWs and guide them to the exit. The MC Escher-esqe mazes give the game a unique visual identity but the controls feel a little clunky at times and the POWs sometimes don't leave the level when you tell them to but aside from those gripes I like this

Mousebusters Given it's basic gameplay this is one you mainly play for the premise, plot, and characters and thankfully I'd say it delivers in regards to that as it's an interesting mystery as to why you get turned into a mouse and the story actually got me feeling a bit emotional towards the end

Mina the Hollower Whilst heavily compared to, and certainly takes some cues from, classic top down Zelda I find that its significantly more free-form structure gives it an identity of it's own and with its randomization options I'm certainly looking forward to replaying this in the future

The Adventure of Mark Twain Retellings of stories that run the gamut of being comedic, emotional, and insightful are pared with a creative framing device, great voice acting, and stop motion animation that still looks gorgeous over 40 years later. I absolutely adored nigh on every minute of this!

Mr. Do! While I have very briefly sampled this game in the past it wasn't until it's ACA release that I fully got into it and I gotta say it's absolutely a classic! While clearly based on Dig Dug it manages to have its own identity with things like more ways to earn points and an overall faster flow

Bubble Bobble 4 Friends No timer enemy but I like how the player is still motivated to beat the levels quickly to get a high score bonus to 3 star each world. Altho I kinda got fed up on the 2nd loop and gave up 3 starring the worlds after the 3rd world. Still tho aside from that I had a good time

Revolgear Zero A (mostly) horizontally scrolling shooter starring 2 cute anime girls. You pick your weapons at the start of a playthrough and there's a good variety of weapons and option formations that each have a unique charge shot all split between the girls. Slowdown issues aside I quite like it

Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege Pretty guud faux retro platformer heavily inspired by classic Castlevania. I think it's cute how if you run out of lives and can't pay to continue you have to enter a password to resume your progress. Underutilized faith mechanic aside I had a pleasant time overall

C-So! Pretty cool little single screen platformer from Compile in which you use see-saws to kill all the enemies either by crushing them or vaulting them in the air and into the ceiling. The 10 stages repeat infinitely so your goal is to just try to get as high a score as you can and I quite like it

Night Striker (arcade) Goddamn what a game! With it's phenomenal ost, multiple routes, and smooth gameplay this game deserves to be held up alongside other sprite scaling classics. Also I managed to do a 1cc run for all 6 final stages and did the secret boss that one of them has!

Valfaris The combination of prerendered-esqe sprites, run and gun gameplay, and gory violence heavily remind me of Doom Troopers for the Genesis. There's plenty of weapons that you can upgrade and a linear campaign who's length is just right. I had an absolute blast with this

Dice People Very simple idle/incremental game in which you plop down some dice people and they fight enemies for a bit before disappearing. Do the whole incremental game shit in which you purchase upgrades for them after they fight and rinse and repeat until you're done. Pretty short but its alright

Space Gun (Sega Master System) While the graphics are obviously scaled down and it's missing the 2 player co-op and the innovative backpedal system from the OG arcade version I'd say this still manages to be an overall faithful and fun port of Taito's underrated light gun classic

MOCHI-O Tower defense game of sorts that I'd describe as playing like a fusion of Missile Command and Vampire Survivors. Rodents with guns are always a fun combo and I really like how despite being free the mobile version that I played doesnt do any of the typical bullshit you'd expect. Guud stuff

D-Day A very unique vertical shooter from Jaleco in which you control a bulky slow battleship and it's two crosshairs at the same time to take down missiles, planes, and land targets. Kind of an acquired taste thanks to how slow the ship is but I haven't played another shooter like it and I dig it

Tiny Thor Spiritual successor of sorts to the dev's previous game Hammer Kid. Im glad I played that first because it was interesting to see how this game builds on the foundation that game laid. Gorgeous pixel art, great music, and creative level design make this one worth a look

Hydlide (MSX2) A very pretty version of Hydlide that plays pretty well. I find it interesting how it goes back to the PC88 version's style of scrolling in which the screen goes blank for a bit rather than just scroll to the next screen like the MSX version does. Sadly the music is still pretty bad

Tonic Trouble This seems to only be known as just "that game that was made to help develop Rayman 2" and I feel that's a shame because it's super charming and does plenty of things to differentiate it from R2. I think it deserves better than to be relegated to just a footnote and a piece of trivia

Aqua Polis SOS Neat little score attack shooter very reminiscent of Taito's Lunar Rescue with a touch of Missile Command with how you have a shield you can deploy over the city to protect the landing pads against missiles. Quite simple but has some depth to its scoring(pun intended). I quite like it

Rave Racer The final arcade RR game previously not seen on consoles until now thanks to the lovely folks at Hamster. 2 new tracks in addition to the one from RR, new music, and a 3rd person camera are the main additions. Basically it's more of the same and that is far far FAR from a bad thing

Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King Cute little Zelda clone with a novel set up of taking place in a story an old man is telling to his grandkids. Combat felt kinda limp compared to Zelda but at least its easy and some puzzles get reused too much but aside from these quibbles I had a good time overall

Volgarr the Viking An excellent hack and slash platformer heavily based on the first Rastan. Quite a challenging little game and the stages are like a big ass domino that's hard to put up but once you get it up and pushed down you'll be able to easily do it again and again. Well worth a look
