So she's going to scrap the tax that she herself brought forward in June of last year? This is a self-own at best, or an admission of lacking any power in the previous government at worst. But neither looks good for her.

"Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland says the government’s proposed changes to capital gains taxes tabled Monday are the “defining measure” of the parliamentary session, putting pressure on the Conservative Party ahead of a vote on the proposal.

Proposed changes to the capital gains inclusion rate, first announced in the 2024 federal budget, have been billed as an effort to improve “tax fairness” in Canada and a bid to fund the Liberals’ planned spending on housing and other economic plans.

“Today it is possible for a carpenter or a nurse to pay tax at a higher marginal rate than a multi-millionaire. That isn’t fair. That is why our government is raising the inclusion rate on annual capital gains above $250,000 for individuals,” Freeland said in a statement Monday."

2 concerns: 1) Feels like a slippery slope to implementing "AI triage" in other areas of medicine with potentially disastrous results - in ER we have a motto: "the patient decides what's an emergency" 2) Reducing direct patient contact points with their family doctor could have hidden consequences

Quebec is using artificial intelligence to apply a new 'relevance filter' that will allow for an initial sorting in the allocation of medical appointments. The information was reported by La Presse in November.
The technology from the Quebec company Vitrai directs patients to the right professional - doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, pharmacist, social worker - by asking them a series of questions generated by artificial intelligence. For now, the technology is deployed in some 70 clinics. One clinic in Quebec City - which uses Vitrai - was able to offer 400 additional appointments in one month by directing the patient to the right service.
All GMFs in the province will have to use Vitrai by next year, it is reported. This filter will be used in GMFs, but will also be integrated into online appointment booking platforms, such as the unique Votre Sante portal - an election commitment of the Coalition avenir Quebec - which is to be implemented next year. Using Vitrai will cost Quebec $40 million over four years.
