We said goodbye to my grandfather, Myron Schrag, last night. He was an incredible man who spent a lifetime dedicated to peace and social justice. I owe so much of who I am to his teachings and I will miss him so much.

Not a graph crime. They’re talking about two different facets of the same dataset. The chart is showing the share of all adults, while the text is specifically talking about young adults. Here’s the original charts from Pew.

Love to hear it! Common use case where we've had to rely on JS to do the calcs is a bingo card. Each square is a set width/height, but the text content changes. It can be multiline. We want the text to be as large as it can while fitting in the box. Example: www.axios.com/local/san-an...

We hosted a murder mystery dinner last night and it was so much fun! @jaredshort.com and I went a little overboard with decorations to fit the theme of the game. We made a sign post, jungle branches & vines, had torches, and made our own “crates” of artifacts & camp supplies.

This is also the first time I've made an Instagram-specific version of one of my #dataviz projects. There wasn't going to be a good way to get a vertical timeline with 100+ items to fit, so the only option was to rotate it and go horizontal. We went with a curved line to better fill the space.

I've been working through a logic puzzle book as a form of distraction. Sometimes the puzzles are a bit too much for me to do in my head or jot notes down for. Tonight I had to refresh my T9 and built this little #svelte app to help me decode the message!

A basic web page with an input box labeled "message" that contains a string of numbers as code. Below it is a section labeled "key". Each group of letters is broken out into their own column, and below each number in the group is the list of possible letters that number represents on a phone keypad. Selected letters are highlighted because I picked them as the answer while decoding the message. The decoded message below reads "My eyes are green with envy. I wear the hue for all to see. If you [want] to stop the killing first you must catch me."

#30DayChartChallenge: Circles 📊 Using spirals to look at the frequency of "score" I give each day. As expected, most of my days are what I would consider pretty average. And I've had more good days than bad ones.

A row of 5 spirals that are made up of individual dots colored gray and shades of green. Each spiral has the same number of total dots. The first spiral is the lightest green and has the least amount of colored dots scattered throughout the spiral. The third spiral has the most green dots and the longest streak of green dots in a row, followed by the fourth spiral.

#30DayChartChallenge: Slopes 📊 Continuing to visualize my moods, this time as a rollercoaster track. Each row in the track is a year, and the dips and valleys represent shifts in mood across each day.

A minimal line chart that has been designed to look like a rollercoaster. There are 5 rows, with the first four going the full width of the screen and the last one only a quarter of the width. The track is brown, and there are A-frame supports holding up the track along its entire length. At the very end of the track is a yellow cart getting ready to take off into the air as it comes over a peak.

#30DayChartChallenge: Fractions 📊 I've tracked my daily mood and activities for more than 1,500 days. These are my moods visualized. An empty circle was a terrible day, while a full circle was a fantastic day.

A data art piece with 1,500 small circles. The circles are a mixture of empty, partially filled in, and completely filled using a green-blue color palette. Each filled in quarter is a different color. The most common type of circle is one that is half filled, but there is no pattern to the data.

Happy gotcha day to Landra! We adopted her 5 years ago from Lucky Dog Rescue and it’s been one of the best life choices @jaredshort.com & I have ever made. Forever glad she still likes to cuddle with me on the couch so many years later.

`en-GB` for anyone else with the unfortunate job requirement of not being allowed to use the Oxford comma. But this is super dope - had no idea this existed!

A code example showing how setting `en-GB` vs `en-US` when using JavaScript's `Intl.ListFormat()` function changes the output. When using `en-US`, the Oxford comma is used. It is not used when using `en-GB`.

Sometimes 3D column charts can be good. 📊 Fun little viz I made for the holidays was published this morning. Merry Christmas to the USPS workers who make Operation Santa happen!

A visual about the average number of cup holders that can be found on electric boats grouped by whether they are made by North American or European makers. North American boat makers have an average of 12.8 while European makers have an average of 6.3.
