Greetings early medievalists. I am wondering if there is an English translation of Gregory of Tours History of the Franks that has superseded Thorpe's Penguin version and is easily/widely available? Many thanks. #medievalsky

When ‘man’ didn’t mean humanity: How language excluded women for centuries
Language that fails to explicitly name women has historically excluded them. And that exclusion is an active, reversible mechanism that’s now resurfacing.

Today is the Festum Asinorum, the Feast of the Asses, commemorating the flight into Egypt. Think, too, of the donkeys who work for humans globally. Perhaps donate to the Donkey Sanctuary Canada that rescues so many — today might be a good day to make a donation & remember donkeys past and present.

Wither patriarchy & anti-feminism? I have just read two very different articles; “Real Masculinity Terrifies the System” positing “There is a war on men" and "What is ‘Toxic Femininity’?” arguing society will crumble with the “shift female dominance.” Are we really back in the 1990s? #medievalsky

#medievalsky I read an article from the AHR (1908). It was astonishing because it was so personal. The prose was literary graceful; not undermined by dozens of footnotes. Just enough to lead back to the archives. We could never get away with writing like this today, but what a pleasure to read.
