Today in "you must think me an absolute moron."
Screenshot of a connection request from LinkedIn with the message: "Hi, What do you think about this opportunity? I'm looking for a tech man to handle client video meetings who can help my Japanese friend Taki - especially Upwork. He is good at development but needs English support. ~3 hrs/week and compensation is typically $1000-$1500 per week. Thanks, Jacobo!"Screenshot of an email wanting to "license high quality code" from Jupiter notebooks, which is an oxymoron, and then it says, "We then ask you to download a skill from our platform to run locally on your machine. This does not connect to our systems but instead outputs a file for re-upload on our platform to receive pricing."

I've been working on my 8086 assembler and after implementing hash tables and optimizing hot code paths, I got it to build itself 6x faster. After that, I improved the README with bootstrapping instructions and an offer that I really hope someone will take me up on. github.com/jtarrio/pasm
Features

* Outputs COM files directly. No need to link object files!

* Only 10 kilobytes! You can fit it and all your programs in a single floppy disk.

* Blazing fast! 75 lines per second on an IBM PC-XT!

* Written in assembly! You can assemble it with itself, or you can bootstrap it using a computer from the future that can run the Go programming language.

* A not completely terrible assembly language reference is available in ASSEMBLY.md.Alternatively, if you live in the year 1986 and you don't have access to a computer from 2026, you can request a ready-built copy of PASM. COM Send a SASE with two 3%" floppy disks (one to return, one to keep) to the following address:

This is why, even if I do write my assembly code by hand, I like using LLMs to review it.

MEMO TO ALL EMPLOYEES
To all employees

From: Dave Smith, President and CEO
Re: The Information Superhighway
Date: September 1, 1997

Even if you have been living under a rock, it will have been hard to miss the Internet. It feels like it was yesterday when words like “e-mail”, “Trumpet Winsock”, and “surfing the World Wide Web” were as alien to us as “automobile” would have been to someone living one hundred years ago. Yet, it has quickly become an indispensable part of our lives. Just yesterday, I dictated an e-mail to Jennifer to book my trip to Aspen, and she quickly got on her floors’ shared Internet computer, “dialed it up”, and got on “Alta Vista” to get the telephone number of our travel agency.

By all indications, the Internet is here to stay, and it will fundamentally change the way we do business. Therefore, we need to adopt it early and enthusiastically; otherwise we will fall behind and never be able to catch up.Therefore, next week we will install an ISDN line in our head office and double the number of shared Internet-connected computers. Managers and above will also get an Internet account on their own computers. Programmers and salespeople will also be able to request one, subject to Vice President approval.

In an era where everyone can call up any webpage in the world after a short wait and interact with it using DHTML, it is clear that non-Internet software will become obsolete. Therefore, we will mail everyone a set of Netscape 4 installation floppy discs, and we will offer courses on writing HTML webpages and enhancing them with DHTML. You should really learn these technologies, because next year we won't renew our Microsoft Office support contract and all new documents and spreadsheets must be HTML “web pages” that we will view on Netscape 4.For programmers, we will soon announce new training sessions for you to learn how to set up the “NCSA HTTPd server” and write “CGI_BIN scripts”. We will update our hiring criteria to require knowledge of HTML, VRML, and the “Perl” programming language that is used for “CGI_BIN scripts”. Dave, our Vice President of Engineering, will send a memo soon.

I understand that these changes may seem disruptive to some of you, but we need to adapt: whoever gets first to this new world will win and the rest will be left forever behind. There is already one “Yahoo!” and one “WebVan” and one “AOL” and nobody will ever be able to dethrone them. I want our company to be up there too.

Dave

I'm developing a new UI for Radio Receiver, my browser-based RTL-SDR application, and I have just uploaded some prototypes! github.com/jtarrio/radi...
A screenshot of my prototype in dark mode. Very dark gray background, on the left a sidebar with a single wrench icon labeled "options". At the top, two frequency entry boxes: one for the selected frequency and another for the center frequency. Underneath, entry boxes for the tuning step and the tuning offset. Underneath, the frequency spectrogram over a grid that goes from 92500 to 94500 kilohertz and -100 to -30 decibels. It shows four wideband signals with different power levels. Underneath, a waterfall display shows that three of the signals are quite powerful, and the fourth one not so much.

A white line highlights the selected frequency; a white semi-transparent region highlights the selected bandwidth.

At the bottom, a box contains a "play" button, a select box with "WBFM" written on it, and a button with a wrench icon that probably indicates settings.A screenshot of my prototype in light mode. Human brains lap it up. Brains LOVE patterns. There is no pattern so dull nor so repetitive that a human brain won't try extremely hard to assign meaning to it, even if there is none. Especially if there is none. It's like 20% of all movies have the same plot, just with the details changed.

I see that the rule that any opinion is bullshit if it comes after "look, it's really simple" also applies to Supreme Court justices.
ISABEL RICO, PETITIONER v. UNITED STATES

ON WRIT OF CERTIORARI TO THE UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE NINTH CIRCUIT

[March 25, 2026]

JUSTICE ALITO, dissenting.

This case is much simpler than the Court's opinion suggests, and we have no need to consider whether petitioner's term of supervised release was "tolled" when she absconded and evaded supervision.

Go 1.26 is out with new features! I guess that means that I won't have to type up these two functions ever again: func ptr[T any](t T) *T { return &t } func ErrorAs[E error](err error) (out E, ok bool) { ok = errors.As(err, &out) return }
A simple example of this change means that code such as this:

x := int64(300)
ptr := &x

Can be simplified to:

ptr := new(int64(300))errors

The new AsType function is a generic version of As. It is type-safe, faster, and, in most cases, easier to use.
