What lies beneath the seafloor? 🌊 Loved creating this launch video for 'Mysterious Ocean: Physical Processes and Geological Evolution' by Peter T. Harris (who happens to be my dad!). Published by @springernature.com. Launch event at the Hobart Bookshop on Oct 22!

Launching my sister’s new book this Fri at Parliament House. It tells the funny, fascinating story of the 1st women elected to fed parliament & the absolute absurdity they faced on day one: there were no women’s loos. If you’re into politics, inclusion or a cheeky bit of toilet humour, come along 😄

Remind me again why the empty, inbound Metro buses returning from the Taroona High run can’t pick up passengers along Sandy Bay Road on their way back to the Moonah depot? They have to pass through the CBD anyway…

My sister’s first book arrived! It’s a children’s story about Enid Lyons and Dorothy Tangney, the first women elected to parliament – who had little in common ideologically but found they had one thing in common: no ‘Ladies’ loos in Parliament House.

Melbourne GPO (1861-1907). First two floors are constructed from Tasmanian sandstone quarried in Orford. The third floor and tower are later additions, sourced from Melbourne’s first quarries. The Orford stone is noticeably whiter in real life.

Some cinema history: Hoyts MidCity ran in the T&G basement from 1982-1992ish. A 400-seat, single-screen cinema, it was opened to take on Village’s new West End Twin (Tassie's first multiplex) just down the road. Needless to say, Village won. The lights of the T&G clock tower are finally working again! Now they just need to fix the time…

Last time I checked, they were building this... so this newer render feels better - I like that the original building gets to survive in this new timeline

King Island Dairy has new local owners who are excited for the future. A rare day in news, filming a positive story from an out-of-reach location. Obligatory shot of the media squad at the airport, ready for some cheese.

No buses again today either… been here since 8:15 and will now likely be late to work. Three scheduled buses just haven’t arrived

Snapped this image of George Davis’ 150,000-tile mural being covered for protection before the building is demolished for apartments. Built in 1960 for the ABC, who vacated in the mid-80s. Tassie has few television buildings left—a topic I’m exploring in the next issue of Australian Cinematographer.

Could someone please open an American-style diner in Huonville that serves locally-made hot apple pie and drip coffee all day? Bonus points if they install flashing Hartz Cola neons and a jukebox that only plays Jean Stafford

Burnie becoming a renewables Mecca is as incidental as Tasmania’s now nationally revered hydro. Still, it’s great to see new industry in what I remember from childhood as being one of Australia’s most polluted towns. Via @pulsetasmania.bsky.social

Australia’s only working 19th century windmill is in Tasmania - they only replace the blades once a century and you can buy milled flour in the shop below as you may have in 1837 #windfarm #windenergy #netzero #renewableenergy #greenenergy #oatlands #tasmania

@teamswiftparrot.bsky.social I am really interested in how this project may impact swift parrot breeding habitats. Do they migrate over the Furneaux bioregion or do they fly directly over the Strait?

I came across this term today while admiring century-old images of double-decker trams on Sandy Bay Road: "anemoia." Although not a formal philosophical concept, it captures the emotive of longing for, or idealising a past that you've never directly experienced. #hobart #tasmania #philsky

This vintage "Kwika" AirFreight Australia label to Launceston stood out today. I particularly enjoy the "LST" IATA code serifs. I wish modern utilitarian labelling retained this level of care. Paul Rand's "Design is the silent ambassador of your brand" quote resonates here. #launceston #tasmania

Aside from Melbourne's Capitol Theatre, Walter Burley & Marion Mahony Griffin designed three other cinemas—the Orpheum (1922), Ascot (1923) & Romance (1931)—none built. The Ascot drawing offers a glimpse of how the Griffins may have brought Art Deco grandeur to Australian suburbs. Image: Trove.

As Hobart trials electric buses and considers Bus Rapid Transit, it’s worth remembering its electric trolleybuses (1935–1968), which ran alongside trams until 1960. Despite Tasmania's 2020 renewable energy milestone, the 1890s–1960s marked Hobart's greenest public transport era. Pics: Trove.

Designed by Cheesman Doley Brabham & Neighbour, the Eastside Drive-In opened in Warrane in 1966 with Australia’s largest screen (330 m²). It closed in 1984, and its projection building was integrated into the Eastside Lutheran College. Photos by Nigel Saunders, 1977 (Libraries Tasmania).

Some shots from a 2015 music video I directed in Port Melbourne, near the old Spirit of Tasmania terminal. Traffic jams from passengers often caused delays–while TT-Line's move to Geelong made sense, it was amusing to see the city's wealthiest demographic mildly inconvenienced! #spiritoftas

They visited Melbourne before the Vekta rebrand–surprisingly little changed. Canon EOS 5Ds were used, while analog stereoplotters were converted to digital with in-house hardware needing constant upkeep. My colleague Jen Vella took these shots–that's me in the chopper in 2006. Good times early on!

The Art Deco Star Theatre at 7-9 Stewart St, Devonport, opened on 10 September 1937, praised as being "equal" to mainland cinemas. In 1975, it was rebranded as Cinema One, featuring a single-level, 498-seat layout. After closing in 1999, the building was repurposed as a Salvos and ballet studio.

Thanks for sharing. It gives you an idea of the Padua in Brunswick's atmosphere, which was gutted in the 60s and demolished in '82. I've never seen any colour images
