Well, yes but no. It's always depending on the view of those who ban books. Germany also has laws to punish (kinda censor) certain things like slander, discrimination, holocaust denial and more. These things clearly don't evolve society.

I like it when journalists aren't subjected to lawsuits and heavy legal costs, so they can keep reporting. Also, it's part of honoring the judicial due process; until a court has ruled it so, journalists cannot just say so. Ik the red tape is frustrating, but I'd rather have the thinly flowery lang.

Aber, fr, selbst ich als Christ kann anerkennen, dass es in der heutigen kulturellen Landschaft nicht mehr sinnvoll ist, staatliche Feiertage (va von Staaten, die sich neutral gegenüber Religion verhalten wollen) an einer Religion zu orientieren. Würde das gerne anders gestalten.

Well... A price doesn't only need to finance its manufacturing cost. Especially with such a research-, regulation- and trial-and-error-heavy field as medicine and especially cancer-treatment research; it also needs to finance all failures, research & trials.

Well... That, and all the related engineering, logistics & manufacturing are well established + optimized by now. Slave labor was involved since day 1, so idk how solid a causation relationship between that & falling battery prices truly is. But, yes, it is a topic that needs to be addressed.

Haus meiner Eltern ('08) hat eine mit Boden-nahem Flächen-Erdwärme-Kollektor + Fußbodenheizung. Mein Dad ist nicht mehr ganz zufrieden (zB überholtes Kältemittel, wir dürfen aber kein anderes nehmen), aber die Effizienz ist immer noch gut (4,3-5,2 oder so).

Nice! I came up with my online pseudonym when I was a young teenager. I took it from a very minor side character in a popular franchise. I attached "y" + "lein" bc they are suffixes to make a thing more cute, lol. I later found out I didn't even spell it like the character was really spelled.

Safety precautions about the battery plant are a concern that is entirely valid. IMO, the battery plant company should share the responsibility to prepare the district for all possible events.

The article that ‪@dasmo.bsky.social‬ linked mentions a power to heat to power option with an efficiency of 30-35%. That simply doesn't compare to the efficiency of a normal battery. Depending on cost to build/maintain, a sand battery could be cheaper, but imo, that's not likely.

"power"... "heat" is the better term. Which needs a district heating grid. Power from a battery can be used for more than heating. There are more eco-friendly electric battery materials in development/early use. But lithium is established and thus widely available and cheap.

afaik, these sand batteries store heat by using excess power. To distribute the heat to homes, the city needs a district heating grid. Which is pretty costly to build. Plus, converting heat back to power is not efficient. Also: power from electric batteries can be used for more than heating.

Wofür sollte ne Wüste sonst genutzt werden? Viele Tiere/Pflanzen werden ja nicht vertrieben. Zeitgleich hat's auch positive Aspekte auf Vegetation & bekämpft so die Wüstenausbreitung. + man kann es doppelt nutzen zB mit Schafsherden. kA warum du meckerst. Instinktive Anti-Haltung oder so

Well, you can still use Internet services. Just use the ones that you trust, that are non-commercial, and that are hosted by you or friends. Utilize the #Fediverse! It's built on top of a public protocol (ActivityPub by the W3C), not an in-house one like Bluesky.

I didn't want to join Bluesky, bc it's another social media app owned by a for-profit. But I joined bc of the same reasons why I still am on Insta & TikTok: all the people creating the content I want to see are here. I would rather stick to the #Fediverse. I have plans to move my Insta there.

Mastodon hat auch nen Zeichenlimit. Da es dezentralisiert ist, kann jede Instanz das selber entscheiden. Ich bin auf einer mit 1300 Zeichen. Da alles im Fediverse ist, kannst du auch auf ne Instanz von pleroma.social (5k chars) oder misskey-hub.net (3k chars) und von da mit Mastodon reden.
