Darn :( I want to use my VPN. 😭
YouTube refused to provide data, asking for a login to confirm the requester is not a bot.
Your IP might have been temporarily banned by YouTube, you can wait some time or switch to a different IP (for example by turning on/off a VPN, or by switching from WiFi to mobile data).

In Weston-super-Mare I found these lamp poles with what looked like morse code. Most of me thought nahhh, it's just stylistic ventilation. But it turns out it means "pier square" and it was in a square opposite the pier.

Huhh?? This is worded as if one dependency change will be the same as not having a lockfile at all. I don't know how I feel about this article. It's got a lot of truths, but also quite a few "???" moments like they're making things out to be more serious than it is.
What a lock file doesn't do for you

If a lock file gets out of sync with its package.json, it can no longer be guaranteed to lock anything, and the package.json will be the source of truth for installs.

The lock file has only delayed the inevitable problem, and provides much less visibility than package.json, because it's not designed to be human readable and is quite dense.

Then, a new companion deck is made! In the Decks screen you will see a new deck as a child of the parent one. It behaves like a new deck.
110
Jack @jackwright.online · 15/05/2026
I will share a repo in the future with it, but here's how it works. You can go to a deck and create a "companion derivation" deck. E.g. here's a screenshot of the configuration dialog:
'Create Companion Derivation' dialog with fields for Derivation name ('ishi 1.5k Companion'), Source deck ('Kaishi 1.5k'), Source note type ('Kaishi 1.5k'), Target deck ('shi 1.5k::Companion'), FrontAudio source field ('Sentence Audio'), and BackMeaning source field ('Sentence Meaning'). Two checkboxes are checked: 'Only mature cards (ivl >= 21 days)' and 'Auto sync when parent deck study session ends'. Cancel and OK buttons are at the bottom.

Osu! is the only game I support to this extent. I've been slowly growing my supporter length over the 11+ years of playing. 😂 - It's not P2W - No MTX - Open Source - Has an extremely transparent dev team - Fun
Your current osu!supporter tag is valid until January 25, 2060!
Thank you for your ongoing support! So far, you've contributed a total of US$1,132.00, earning you the "Supporter" tag for 41 years and 3 months.
Out of your total contributions, you’ve gifted US$60.00 worth of tags to 9 other users covering 1 year and 3 months. That’s incredibly generous!

I remember when Discord advertised themselves as the fastest VC client. Considering it runs Electron I highly doubt it was the case back then and even more so today. 🤔
A chart Discord used to show in 2016 that illustrated as a bar chart Discord providing the most FPS to alternatives like TeamSpeak and Skype. It illustrates double the FPS of TeamSpeak and quadruple the FPS of Skype.

To the left of the chart, Discord wrote:

"Voice chat that doesn't slow down your game

Designed for use while gaming, Discord has minimal impact on your CPU. Your game's performance won't be affected in the slightest. Seriously. It's time to ditch CPU hogs like Skype."

This is the underlying code behind the utilities. It uses a combination of type guards and string inferences to pull it off. `startsWith` just checks it's a valid namespace. Then that means `trailing` can pluck the rest of the values off the end after the colon. TS can infer everything!
A screenshot of a code snippet. There is no normal English beyond this point. This is the code:

export function startsWith<S extends string>(
  string: string,
  leading: S,
): string is `${S}${string}` {
  return string.startsWith(leading);
}

type TrailingResult<
  T extends string,
  U extends string,
> = T extends `${string}${U}${infer R}` ? R : never;

export function trailing<T extends string, U extends string>(
  string: T,
  separator: U,
): TrailingResult<T, U> {
  const parts = string.split(separator);

  return parts.slice(1).join(separator) as TrailingResult<T, U>;
}

What is this bs? Why mass surveillance always under the guise of "protect the kids"? All this warrants is putting a special chip in all of our devices to scan everything we do. Source: bills.parliament.uk/publications... (page 20)
An excerpt from the Parliament's "Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill" in the UK. It says:

'The “CSAM requirement” is that any relevant device supplied for use in the UK must have installed tamper-proof system software which is highly effective at preventing the recording, transmitting (by any means, including livestreaming) and viewing of CSAM using that device.'

Also this is soooo cool! I wish they sold this to consumers. How sick is it that you can get a really efficient video encoder/decoder in an M.2 slot! Operating temperature is less than 35C. Insane. Even if it doesn't beat Nvidia the power consumption alone does make it really cool.

Did something I am kinda happy with. I was so inspired by Drizzle's composable SQL API I decided to try and mimic it at a very basic level in my UI for conditionally displaying elements based on access levels. Here's an example of the API for handling UI elements combining feature flags/perms:
A code snippet showing the collectionMatch utility. It demonstrates how to detect if an array has a certain subset of values using the allOf and anyOf functions.

The code is as follows. There is no more English alternate text after the code.

// Comes from an API or something else
const userPermissions = [
  "FEATURE:SITE_ADMIN_BETA",
  "AUTH:MANAGE_USERS",
  "AUTH:MANAGE_VEHICLES",
] as const;

const result = collectionMatch(
  data,
  allOf(
    "FEATURE:SITE_ADMIN_BETA",
    anyOf("AUTH:MANAGE_USERS", "AUTH:MANAGE_VEHICLES")
  )
);

// JSX example (uses collectionMatch under the hood)
<Authorized
  requires={and(
    "FEATURE:VEHICLES",
    or("AUTH:MANAGE_USERS", "AUTH:MANAGE_VEHICLES")
  )}
  fallback={<h1>Access Denied</h1>}
>
  <h1>Show something!</h1>
</Authorized>;

Yeeears ago I had a mild argument on Twitter (I hope I've outgrown internet arguments now 🙄) about the value of Google Stadia. My point aged well!
A screenshot of the argument I had on Twitter many years ago.

Jack (me) said:

"I don't wanna be a party pooper for iOne but stadias value is very poor. You only own the games if you pay a subscription and if stadia goes bust (especially with Google track record) you lose everything you bought. You MUST have stable and decent internet."

iOne replies:

"You are right about being a party pooper. Facts:

1. you don't need a subscription to play your games, you can just buy your games and play. Subscription is only for the pro titles.

2. Stable/decent internet connection is a must true but a 20-30mb con will keep you well.

3. The Google Graveyard joke is getting old now, all the previous Google projects have been incorporated in other products when they got shut, who's to say if Stadia shuts that you won't get it as part of YouTube gaming?

4. Try and experience and let people enjoy/form their mind.

5. A decent growing library is subjective to tastes and preferences. If you like a game doesn't mean others will and if you don't maybe some people do."

Jack (me) final reply:

"Fairs"
