Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 28/03/2026And I enjoyed A Song for Arbonne so much I had to start another GGK, All the seas of the world. Fantastic start as with all of his works. How is this author not more talked about? 📚💙 070
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 25/03/20264.5 ⭐️ I tend to not like the sex in Kay’s books. I just gotta accept that but that’s why I deducted half a star. Everything else is absolutely fantastic. Maybe even the best ending to one of his books I’ve read so far? 031
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 23/03/2026I read the Sarantine Mosaic last year, absolutely fantastic! 000
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 23/03/2026A Song for Arbonne - Guy Gabriel Kay. I purchase and then savour these books because once I’ve read them all I’ll have to wait until more are written. Picked this up earlier on today because I felt like treating myself. 📚💙 340
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 18/03/2026To clarify, I think most people observe the generally agreed upon social rules of going to the cinema but there’s a sizeable minority who disrupt and it puts me off going to the cinema now when I used to love it 010
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 18/03/2026It’s such a shame that nowadays people can’t even go to the cinema without needing the stimulation of checking their phone. If you can’t commit to the 2-3 hours then you shouldn’t be going. Don’t ruin the experience for everyone else. 100
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 18/03/2026Dune part 3 and Avengers Doomsday coming out the same day could be a blessing. All the normie folk can sit on their phones and talk whilst watching Avengers whilst I enjoy Dune. I’ll definitely be watching Avengers when it comes out on stream. 100
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 16/03/2026I’ve had an incredible first quarter as far as my reading goes. Memories of Ice (Malazan), Ashes of Man (Suneater), The Pillars of the Earth and now reading The Stand are my highlights of this year so far. 📚💙🪐 031
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 04/03/2026Ashes of man… Ruocchio lets you knew it was gonna happen but it still hurts when it does. Iykyk 📚💙🪐 010
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 04/03/2026It’s wild isn’t it! I maintain books 8,9,10 could have been cut down and packaged as one big book. It’s only amazing from here! Hope you enjoy the last 3 020
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 22/02/2026Perdido Street Station is a weird Fantasy written like a Sci fi novel. I struggled at points through the first 30% but there’s been a development that seems to have kickstarted the plot into gear 110
Reposted by JackAparna Nair @disabilitystor1.bsky.social · 12/02/2026no, it simply isnt. People are talking about capital using gAI as an excuse to conduct mass lay-offs, about students losing learning because theyre being lied to about gAI in education, about the mass theft of the work of artists and authors to train LLMs, about CSAM and nonconsensual sexual images. 402686679
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 13/02/2026Every so often I come across a live performance I wish I could go back in time to witness. Primus at Ozzfest 1999 is one such set. Simply brilliant 000
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 06/02/2026Long weekend ahead. On taxi duties for my wife’s best friends hen do, Gotta paint the house ready for viewings in the next couple of weeks, followed by a late night watching Super Bowl. Gonna be shattered next week 000
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 06/02/202616 yo me. Cersei is an evil woman. 25 yo me. Cersei is ambitious and does terrible things. 29 yo me. Cersei is no worse than any other character. She is a victim of being a woman in a man’s world. She is the “son” Tywin always wanted and whilst I disagree with her actions, I respect her 📚💙🪐 020
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 06/02/2026Overall I’d give this 4/5. A worthwhile read. The pacing, characters and basic plot were fine. The settings are fantastic, the imagination incredible. 📚💙🪐 020
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 06/02/2026Admittedly this might be difficult given the book is essentially a cat and mouse chase but I think there was an opportunity to have a stop or two last at least couple pages longer. 110
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 06/02/2026If I were to change the book in any way I would want another 10-20% added, with some more luscious descriptions and allow the setting/ characters to breath a bit more. 110
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 06/02/2026I found the pacing to be fine but it did impact how memorable each location is. Upon finishing I know I’ve already forgotten some of the amazing details mentioned in each separate place visited in the story. 110
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 06/02/2026I’ve seen some criticism about the pace but looking at the book and seeing it’s around 400 pages means that either not too much can happen or the pacing needs to be quick compared to the usual fantasy books tending to be on the larger side. 110
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 06/02/2026Not entirely a criticism but while parts are written beautifully other sections were a bit more functional. This may have been intentional to cater for a wider audience but I found myself craving some more flowery prose to complement the setting. 110
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 06/02/2026What a fantastic story. I loved the setting and all the wonderfully fantastical elements introduced throughout. It felt like a fairy tale, I understand and agree with the Studio Ghibli comparisons I’ve seen online. 110
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 05/02/2026It’s fantastic isn’t it! Very much suits the story as well 010
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 05/02/2026I can totally see that. I’ve got the feeling right from GOTM that a reread would be incredibly rewarding 020
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 04/02/2026Whilst I am taking a Malazan break, I am thinking of my Midnight Tides wish list: More Pust Whiskeyjack to return as an ascendant and start doing bits and pieces More dragons More info on the what heck the Edur are doing A big old epic battle of the MOI proportion 130
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 03/02/2026I also went in blind, my wife picked it up randomly when post Christmas book shopping and agreed to read at the same time. I hope you enjoy it! 010
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 02/02/2026A lovely change of pace reading this. Yambao has a fantastic imagination, I’m really enjoying Water Moon 💙📚🪐 4111
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 02/02/2026I’m still a big fan of the series and looking forward to picking up Midnight Tides after a little break. 3.75/5 ⭐️ 020
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 02/02/2026House of chains ✅ my least favourite so far. The ending fell a bit flat for me even if it does set up some very interesting things for the next book. This book has all the great elements of prior ones but the pacing felt a bit slow at points and I found myself putting off picking it up by the end 210
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 02/02/2026My enjoyment of this book is very up and down. Not sure if I’m a bit burned out doing books 3&4 back to back. Int the final 100 pages and I’m already sort of looking forward to finishing which I haven’t had in prior books. It’s still very good but I think this is my least favourite so far 100

Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 30/01/2026Part 3 much much better than part 2. Really enjoying the Cotillion involvement in this book 100
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 30/01/2026By writing Bidithal, Erikson has managed to craft the most hateable character I’ve ever read 130
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 29/01/2026Finished part 2. Took significantly longer than part 1 with Karsa. I have many questions, not sure I fully grasp what everyone’s doing but just gonna keep moving forward 100
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 26/01/2026Finished Welcome to Lovcraft. Overall a good start. I really like the art style and felt myself sliding into the story straight away. Parts of it I felt predictable but I enjoyed it all the same. It does well to establish the main characters and setting, I’m looking forward to building on this 💙📚 020
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 26/01/2026Oh it’s a thick and heavy book, could do some damage with it for sure! Thanks for the recs, I’ll have a look at those 010
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 26/01/2026I’ve admired 30 days of night and V for Vendetta from afar for a while… but I’ve seen the films for those so they wouldn’t come under the “new for me” criteria 100
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 26/01/2026I’d be interested in anything dark fantasy/ horror. Would totally go for a full Batman story but not sure where to start. That being said I’d prefer to do something totally new for me 📚💙 120
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 26/01/2026Picked up Locke & Key for the first time last night, the first graphic novel I’ve read in over a decade. Absolutely loving it! The amount of volumes is what puts me off the medium, luckily this is the whole main arc in one binding. I wonder if there’s similar stories in one binding I could try? 371
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 23/01/2026Book 2 straight in with Cotillion. Steve giving me what I need 100
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 21/01/2026If the Crippled God gets Karsa in on his naughtiness then epic shenanigans are gonna ensue 110
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 21/01/2026Although saying that it would be appropriate if this dude was built all the way up to just be unceremoniously flicked aside by a bigger fishmedia.tenor.coma man is sitting in a car with the words `` there 's always a bigger fish '' written below him .ALT: a man is sitting in a car with the words `` there 's always a bigger fish '' written below him . 110
Jack @jacksread.bsky.social · 21/01/2026I think the focus of having Korsa nonstop for 100+ pages with no break in focus has really helped to establish him in my mind. In previous books it took longer for me to get a clear picture in my mind of some characters. I’m assuming this guy is v important given the detail given 🪐📚 130
