With the White Sox clinching a playoff spot this year, the #SFGiants are one of only 6 teams (PIT, LAA, WSH, ATH, COL) who have not been to the postseason from 2022-2026. Of those teams, they have the best Win% in that timeframe (0.477).
List of all 30 MLB teams, sorted by their Win% from 2022-2026. Teams with playoff appearances from 2022-2026 are highlighted in green. The SF Giants have the best Win% of teams that have missed the playoffs from 2022-2026.

They actually underperformed their X-W/L record by 7(!) whole games (projected for 72-90 based on run diff, but actually went 65-97). Just goes to show how bad the bullpen was in close situations.

It certainly feels like the Giants hit better today!

Didn’t they allow 2 homers, to Merrill and Tatis?

Splits are even crazier if you just exclude April. After all the talk at the start of the year, he’s ending up having a good season.
April/March: .537 OPS
Every other month: >.800 OPS

That would make cutting them an easy decision… if it was true. (Unfortunately) Hentges and Brubaker have been pretty good so far. But hey, maybe that makes them good trade pieces in a month.

ESPN accounts for more factors (and does decimals) and they had 99.9% at one point!

I don’t really think he should’ve been called up, but it’s literally been 3 at-bats

Harrison was traded away in a deal that, at the time, was pretty agreed upon to be a win for the Giants. Teng was given a decent amount of runway last year, with people at the time saying it was too much. You can quibble with the Miles decision, but any way you slice it, 15 IP is a small sample.

I can sort of see this point, but pitching and hitting are a duality, the stats match league-wide for both. We would need to check if RA/G is more closely correlated with K% than R/G to prove this point.

Tyler Mahle got absolutely screwed today, not really his fault this time. (Also the "better pitcher" that people wanted them to sign, Imai, has also been bad so far)

Did catch the final two innings last night, so maybe late-inning defensive replacement (when he doesn’t start) is part of the equation here?

To be fair, they *have* improved their contact skills compared to last year (22nd in strikeouts so far in 2026 vs 12th in 2025). Of course, that contact has definitely not been worth it thus far (30th in HRs, 29th in runs in general).

A fair assessment in general for Vitello’s on-field management, but this move specifically was made by the front office (Posey/Minasian)

Hard to win by scoring less than 3 runs, so I’ll choose A

Imo middle of the order. Contact drives in runs, and while Arraez got on base at an elite rate in 2022/23, his OBP last year was just .327
000
jjchilly @jacksonjude.com · 22/01/2026
The definition of a one-tool player. Doesn’t field well, doesn’t run well, doesn’t hit for power. Also doesn’t get on base at a very elite rate (only .327), meaning he isn’t a great lead-off hitter. Fits best as a bench piece for close-game RISP situations.

jjchilly @jacksonjude.com · 02/12/2025
Yeah there are certainly better stats for pitchers than ERA, I’m just pushing back on “it’s batting average for pitchers”. ERA is closer to OPS, which is good at showing a batter’s value in a given year, but still isn’t great at predicting future success.
000
jjchilly @jacksonjude.com · 02/12/2025
I would say that ERA is definitely a better stat than BA, since a pitcher’s value is almost entirely determined by the number of runs allowed, and in how many innings they allowed them. This is opposed to BA, which doesn’t give you any context for slug or on-base ability.

Meaning he plays really really well and the Dodgers still lose?
110
jjchilly @jacksonjude.com · 21/10/2025
My question to you is, when will this go too far in your view? How many more all-stars do they need to sign? How many more World Series’ do they need to reach? I want to believe someone else can break through, but that’s not seeming likely for the foreseeable future.
000
jjchilly @jacksonjude.com · 21/10/2025
Giants fan here. Believe me, we certainly try to sign players to big deals, but it just feels hopeless to compete in free agency when you have a team as rich and successful as the Dodgers. I’m not mad at the them for spending like crazy, but what they’ve done exposes the flaws in the system.
