Late 1980s, Prince Charles sought disgraced paedophile Jimmy Savile's counsel on matters of public relations during a tumultuous period for the royal family. In one handwritten note, he called Savile "the bloke who knows what's going on"....

Trump is in Scotlamd and tonight watching BBC and the film "Avengers: Infinity War" part of which was filmed in Edinburgh. Later Trump dreams he is in the movie and a Master of the Universe but they don't tend to be a fat bully sociopath with a comb-over.

It “Caught the English spirit in all its ambiguity and whimsey” Lion and the Unicorn Pavilion at Festival of Britain, 1951 typically ignored the fact that the Unicorn is the symbol of Scotland - along with any mention of our country anywhere in the exhibition!

Bob Vylan on YoutTube. UK government condemned it but I, friends and family agree with much of it. According to a United Nations Special Committee, Amnesty International, and other experts such as academics and lawyers, Israel is committing genocide in Gaza against the Palestinians. Starmer stinks!

China’s Wuhan's Optics Valley Light Rail - a suspended monorail in 2025. A century earlier - the Bennie Railplane was a form of rail transport invented by George Bennie. Built near Glasgow in 1929.

From the royal court, to humble rural communities, Robin Hood's popularity in medieval Scotland was huge. Earliest references to the outlaw are found in 15thc chronicles but only the Asloan Manuscript (1515) references Robin Hood and a May parade in Edinburgh for all the burgh's male inhabitants!

William Miles Johnston (1898-1974) Kirkcudbright based animal and bird artist, a Life Fellow of the Edinburgh Zoological Society. After WWI assisted Robert Lorimer on the Scottish War Memorial in Edinburgh. Now known for his pottery, which he sold under the “Zoo” brand.

Cecile Walton (1891 – 1956) Scottish painter, illustrator and sculptor. She and her husband Eric were two of the moving spirits of the Symbolist movement in Scotland in the early 20th century.

Scottish Temperance League Offices, 108 Hope Street, Glasgow. Architect, Salmon & Son, 1894. Described as a "little orange-red Franco-Flemish" building, wiith "light-hearted sculptural details" but it is five storeys high, so it is only small in comparison with the neighbouring buildings.

First municipal fire brigade in the modern world was formed in Edinburgh in 1824, led by James Braidwood. In 1832 he was persuaded to move to London to lead a force of firemen there. The new fire brigades were very effective but Braidwood was killed in a fire in 1861. The first fire engine survives

Plates from a series of pieces designed by Thomas Allen (1831-1915) that were inspired by the works of Walter Scott (1777-1832). Scott's novels were incredibly popular, not least with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and typified the Victorian's love of an idealised and romantic medieval period.

Relics of St Columba were carried before Scottish armies in a reliquary made in mid-8th C at Iona called the Brecbennoch or Monymusk Reliquary. Carried in the Battle of Bannockburn (24 June 1314) by the vastly outnumbered Scots army, Columba is said to have helped us to victory over the English.

Alexander Fleming (1881 – 1955) Scottish physician and microbiologist, best known for discovering in 1928 the world's first broadly effective antibiotic which he named penicillin. His discovery has been described as the "single greatest victory ever achieved over disease".

Thomas Smith Tait (1882 – 1954) was a Scottish modernist architect. He designed a number of buildings around the world in Art Deco and Streamline Moderne styles, notably St. Andrew's House, Calton Hill, Edinburgh, the pylons for Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Empire Tower, Glasgow.

David Allan (1744 – 1796) Scottish painter’s “The Origin of Painting” representing a Corinthian maid drawing round her lover's shadow. In the 20th century, American painter R B Kitaj (1932-2007) based many paintings on this account of the invention of art.

Daniel Cottier (1838–1891) Scottish artist, designer, decorator and art dealer whose business empire spanned 3 continents. Cottier and his decorating firms brought art to the public and were key exponents of the Aesthetic Movement, with its focus on beauty and the creation of a ‘unified interior’.

John Duncan Fergusson (1874 – 1961) Scottish artist and sculptor, one of the major artists of the Scottish Colourists. In 1918 he was commissioned by Ministry of Information for a series of paintings of Porstmouth Dockyard.
