Julian and I, celebrating Valentine's day at a local mocktail bar ❤️
My gorgeous fiancé Julian, and me. We are leaning against each other in a fancy mocktail bar. Neon lights are highlighting the shape of Julian's face, and it has a dreamy smile. I finally made it back into the studio after a little break, it feels good to play with mud! I surprised myself by knocking out three nice little pots, intentionally sisters but not twins. I want to experiment more with shapes and proportions specifically in this family.
Three freshly thrown clay forms sit on a ware board covered in newspaper. They are slightly angular at the hips, with an emphasis on sweeping concave shapes. The background is a busy pottery studio.

The love of my life came to visit me in Edmonton for a month. We saw a lot of excellent live music, ate gourmet ice cream, and got engaged! Julian went back to California yesterday, and I'm already missing it terribly. ♥️

I sold the best mug of the batch to a young woman who was absolutely thrilled with it. She picked it up and held it to her chest while talking to her friend about how it was her soulmate mug, her soulmug, before passing me the cash for it. I was so happy she liked it, I hope the mug brings her joy!

I've had a lot going on so I forgot to post about it, but I was a vendor at my first ever pottery sale a couple weeks back! I got to table with my pal Brim, which was a fun experience. I sold more pots than I expected and got to chat with a lot of cool people!

It might be hard to distinguish them, but these are two separate cups. They were thrown thick, and then carved into with different tools while leather-hard, an experiment with the pottery technique Kurinuki. I love how the spearmint breaks over the texture of these cups!

I need to take better photos, but please view how well my spearmint glaze turned out on these pots! Each time I use it, I'm happier with the results. I took these photos in the back alley behind the pottery studio, in a desperate attempt to catch some sunshine on a cloudy, rainy day.

Sometimes a test tile isn't big enough, I'm taking my spearmint for a serious trial run. Both of these pots have dandelion stroke n' coat on the inside, and spearmint on the exterior, with an apricot underglaze runner. I have no idea how these will turn out, but we'll see!

They turned out... fine, lol, I've decided I'm happy with the base recipe! The first line is with added cobalt carbonate, 0.05% to 0.5%, and the bottom line is 1% to 4% lithium carbonate. It came out too grey for my tastes! Turns out I'd rather have a warm green 💚

Busy weekend in the pottery studio! I made a bunch of test tiles for my glaze experiments, trimmed and handled a good amount of mugs, and even managed to throw a few more. I wish I had more time on the wheel, but it is what it is!

I did a big test tile (AKA old bisque ware I'd never bothered to glaze) of my 10L batch (split with a friend) of the spearmint. It turned out nice, but the green is a little warmer than what I expected! I'm going to try adding a little cobalt carbonate to see if that suits me better (maybe 0.5%)

I had a nice run of pots come out of the kiln, and then heard a little tinkling noise coming from the shelf I placed them on... I checked for crazing and instead found one of my handles had broken! What was once an intact pot is now going into my smash bin. The joys and the misery of pottery, haha

Testing testing testing glazes... I've just started putting what I've learned with regard to mixing glaze into practice, and I'm enjoying myself, but waiting for the kiln to fire and cool before I can see the results is going to be the end of me!
Two test tiles of a poorly measured crystalline spearmint glaze. The tile on the left is a decent representation of ~6% rutile, the tile on the right has much too much rutile in it.Test tiles for a much more carefully measured line test of variegated slate blue, 3, 4, 5, and 6% rutile, respectively.A test tile with raw glaze on it, from a fresh batch of spearmint I really hope I measured correctly because I made 10L and gave 5L of it to a friend. I got to try my hand at mixing test batches of glaze at the studio. A surprisingly enjoyable process, I'm sure I messed up my first batch but am confident the other two will be good representations of the recipes I used! It was very tempting to drink the forbidden milkshake.... but I resisted.

This is, I think, the best piece of pottery I've made so far, and it was a throw-away experiment with reclaimed clay "just to see what would happen"

This time I've turned it so the camera can catch a metallic palladium patch where the two layers of floating blue glaze meet. It's on the side of a highway, absolutely not giving a fuck.A wet bison (otherwise known as: a beaver) grazing on reeds emerging from the algae covered surface of Astotin lake.

I trimmed and handled a lot of pots in my last pottery class, but somehow managed not to trim and handle *every* pot that I'd planned to finish? What a time consuming process, haha
Five trimmed pots, four of which have handles on them, stand on a table in a messy pottery studio. Three pots stand on a ware board in the background, not quite the level of leather hard I'd like for trimming.

I'm still throwing pottery on the wheel, I just keep forgetting to post about it! Here are some pieces I've thrown recently that will become tumblers/mugs depending on how I feel about them after trimming, and a bisque fired mug that I'm exceptionally pleased with.
Four wheel thrown pots stand on a ware board in a messy pottery studio. Three of them are upside down because I was trying to encourage them to become leather hard. A diner mug shaped pot, wet and freshly thrown, stands front and centre. Two boards with eight wet ware pots standing on them. The board in the back is the same board from the previous image. I'm not sure how to describe these shapes, but I've been trying to be more intentional with the forms I throw. Yet again, the pottery studio in the background is messy.A bisque fired egg shaped mug stands on a table. I'm exceptionally pleased with it.

Trinket dishes I made in pottery class! I'm really happy with how these turned out, I mixed a speckled clay with a white clay 1:1. The last dish is a gift for my boyfriend, @nexusrasp.bsky.social
Various trinket dishes made out of speckled clay rest on a wooden chest.A trinket dish with emerald green glaze that breaks sapphire blue, held in my hand in front of house plants. The speckles from the clay show through the slightly translucent glaze.A trinket dish with a brown underglaze transfer of an owl layered over green underglaze transfers of leaves and berries, held in my hand in front of house plants. The speckles show clearly under the clear glaze.A trinket dish with a black slip circle in the middle, sgraffito'd with a symbol from the band Coil. It is held in my hand in front of house plants. The speckles show clearly under the clear glaze, but are fully obscured by the black slip.

I'm drinking coffee in this mug I made in pottery class and pulled out of the kiln yesterday, and an enjoying some apple crisp made from the last apples on my backyard macintosh tree. The last couple of weeks have been very busy, so it's nice to take some time for myself and slow down a little.
A large, straight-sided mug with a small handle, made out of red clay. It has green underglaze transfers in woodland botanical designs that have turned dark brown under an opal rust glaze. It's being held in my hand, viewed from the side. My backyard is in the background.A large, straight-sided mug with a small handle, made out of red clay. The interior is a mix of cloudy and glossy textures, from the opal rust glaze I used on it. It's being held in my hand, I'm tipping it towards the camera to show off the inside of the mug. My backyard is in the background.A large bowl of freshly picked macintosh apples. The bowl is resting on a deck railing, and my backyard is visible in the background.A plate of apple crisp, held in front of the rest of the freshly made apple crisp. It's still hot and ready to eat.

The best present I've ever received is this steam juicer from my mom, I get crystal clear jelly as a result! I've previously made jelly by cooking the apples and a stovetop and then straining the results, which is how my grandpa taught me, but the resulting juice is always a little cloudy.
A 3 tiered steam juicer viewed slightly from above. The lid is off and it's full to the top with quartered apples. It sits on the stovetop, heating up.A 3 tiered steam juicer viewed from the side. I used up all of my previously picked apples for cobblers, pie filling, etc. This batch is going to become jelly.
A ridiculous amount of fresh-picked red and green apples, in two large rectangular plastic baskets. These are from my backyard macintosh tree. Maybe 80 pounds of apples, all together?
