I found it a bit wild that McFaul said "In the old days...we were always on the side of the democracies" in the context of discussing Iran, and nobody batted an eyelid about it. The 1953 Mossadeq coup was only one of the Cold War examples when we took the side against democracy.

You can't legitimately be a "mediator" in a conflict when you tell one side they'll be obliterated if they don't comply with ceasefire conditions while saying nothing about any consequences whatsoever for the other side for failing to comply. This is a campaign for domination, not mediation.
