Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 04/08/2025Utah is an ideal starting point, but it doesn't end there. With over 500K acres of lease positions, Fervo has its eyes all across the west. If you want to get involved, get in touch! Email us: data.centers [at] fervoenergy [dot] com 041
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 04/08/2025Not only is Fervo demonstrating viability today, we have big plans for the future - scalable and repeatable 50 MW modules to create an Enhanced Geothermal Data Center Cluster. We are talking "spud date" to delivery in 18 months. Did I already mention zero fresh water usage? 150
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 04/08/2025Fervo's tech and scalability is being proven right now in Utah. 100 MW comes online next year in Milford w/ 500 MW online by 2028. Each day that passes, Fervo is drilling deeper, hotter, and faster - all while using very little land (~1.5-2 acres per MW). 121
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 04/08/2025🚨 Attention all data centers! 🚨 Utah and Fervo Energy are open for business. We are ready - right now - to meet large energy needs. "Enhanced geothermal is the only reliable, affordable, and clean solution that can scale to gigawatt level this decade." Let's learn more...🧵 2104
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 01/08/2025The U.S. transformed the world economy with our advancements in oil and gas technologies. Those advancements have spurred major breakthroughs at Fervo and in enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). It's time to seize this new moment with scalable, clean firm power. 020
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 16/06/2025We also celebrated Cape Connect - Fervo’s inaugural site visit. Over 150 attendees on-site in Utah to see all the incredible advancements of enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). First 100 MW to the grid in 2026. 500 MW in 2028. What a beautiful place. 020
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 23/05/2025However, "continued technological improvements may greatly increase the possible power production by EGS and may yield more than ten times the current best estimate." That's 1,400 GW! 020
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 23/05/2025Super exciting report from the U.S. Geological Survey yesterday on the potential for enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) in the Great Basin. 135 GW of EGS potential is beneath our feet there, which could roughly meet 10% of U.S. power production capacity. pubs.usgs.gov/publication/... 2174
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 08/05/2025To my people in Seattle & my Energy Innovation crew - you will be dearly missed. To those in Denver - please reach out! I'm joining the Fervo Energy team to hopefully play a small part in making next-gen geothermal the next big thing. I continue to surround myself w/ people far smarter than me >>> 060
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 27/02/2025If this were all about securing a minerals supply chain, why wouldn’t the U.S. turn its focus to allies like Canada and Australia who have significant mineral resources they are looking to capitalize on? Instead, we are threatening major tariffs on many of their mineral imports. 111
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 27/02/2025Developing any sort of mining and/or processing infrastructure takes years in the most ideal scenarios. What sort of business would want to risk billions of dollars in investments in a war zone, while also not understanding exactly what is beneath their feet? 110
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 27/02/2025Additionally, the elephant in the room remains the Russian invasion of Ukraine. According to mineral deposit mapping, many of these locations are located in eastern Ukraine. That means we are dealing with Russian occupation and/or destroyed energy & transportation infrastructure. 110
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 27/02/2025What does Ukraine offer in terms of minerals? It’s hard to say. The Ukrainian Geological Survey claims to plenty of titanium, graphite, nickel, lithium, and rare earths, but most surveying was done during the Soviet era. Not to say there isn’t anything there, but data is limited. 110
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 27/02/2025President Zelenskyy will be at the White House tomorrow to sign a US-Ukraine minerals deal. What does that mean for securing our critical minerals supply chain? Potentially nothing w/ some serious reputational risk. I wrote a piece this morning for Forbes evaluating the deal…🧵 131
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 26/02/2025Nearly identical to every single Seattle election result too. The map below is Rinck (orange) and Woo (green). The wealthy enclaves are generally older, vote conservative, and oppose new housing. 040
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 25/02/2025These deposits are primarily situated in war-torn parts of the country (some Russian-controlled). Infrastructure is destroyed. I have a hard time believing any American firms want to invest. Mines require lots of $, lead time, and market/geopolitical predictability. www.politico.eu/article/dona... 010
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 03/02/2025Last Friday, the US Geological Survey published their annual mineral commodity summaries. One major takeaway — our two largest mineral trading partners we are most reliant on? Not just China, but Canada too. Each country exports 21 different minerals that the US is > 50% reliant on via imports. 66520
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 29/01/2025Happy to have received this outreach from King County, but man, what a microcosm of some of the building issues we face today. Planning began in 2016(!!!) and construction is tentatively scheduled to be completed mid-2028. 12 years for a water storage tank. We have to learn how to do things faster. 020
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 13/01/2025Reported last Friday, TSMC has started 4-nm semiconductor production at its new Arizona facility. Quality and yield are at (if not better) than facilities in Taiwan. By 2028, 2-nm production will commence. A significant American milestone. 121
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 23/12/2024Low lithium prices have been excellent for recent EV growth, but it is keeping new investors on the sidelines -despite significant demand growth in the next two decades. Short-term supply/price shocks make it difficult for investors to commit to long-term projects. @benchmarkminerals.bsky.social 130
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 23/12/2024Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, more funding went out the door for lithium projects, including two extraction projects for lithium in Arkansas. Processing, recycling, and battery manufacturing also benefited in DOE's latest announced awards in September. 150
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 23/12/2024Next - project updates. Two major lithium projects in Nevada are steadily moving forward. Ioneer's Rhyolite Ridge project received final fed approval (+ a $700M Department of Energy loan) and Lithium Americas' Thacker Pass project - approved by Trump in 2021 - closed on their $2.26B DOE loan. 130
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 23/12/2024People don't realize we've only begun to scratch the surface when it comes to domestic mineral discovery. We keep finding stuff everywhere and lithium is no exception. From North Carolina, to Arkansas, to Utah, to Nevada, to California, we have plentiful lithium resources. 1195
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 23/12/2024First of all, discovery. We can't stop finding lithium. In October, USGS shared a 5-19 million ton estimate in Arkansas (Smackover). The US already had the 3rd-largest lithium resources in the world. This new discovery could push us to the top (for now). www.usgs.gov/news/nationa... 2132
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 23/12/2024In April, I wrote for @forbes.com about how 2024 could be the year for the American lithium industry. Turned out - it was! A lot happened & I break it down in an updated piece released on Sunday. The article gives you all the goods, but let me share some important takeaways...🧵 2125
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 05/12/2024Remarkable growth in the U.S. solar manufacturing industry. Spurred by the Inflation Reduction Act, facilities are quickly being built across the country. "At full capacity, U.S. solar module factories can produce enough to meet nearly all demand for solar in the United States." 🔌💡 141
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 25/11/2024. @robbieorvis.bsky.social and I spoke with Daily Energy Insider about the future of the Inflation Reduction Act. As Robbie summed up nicely, major manufacturing investments over the past few years are driving U.S. economic competitiveness globally. It's also creating jobs, jobs, and more jobs. 112
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 19/11/2024I spoke w/ @cstephenson.bsky.social about IRA-related manufacturing investments in Tennessee and how political rhetoric ≠ reality. Reality is that IRA is creating thousands of jobs and has spurred significant economic growth in the state. The private market does not want it to disappear. 🔌💡 000
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 14/11/2024Businesses & the economy as a whole hate policy uncertainty. Billion $ projects are made when policies like IRA are in place & can be counted on. To repeal any part of it will not only hurt US global competitiveness, but it will take jobs away from communities across the country. 260
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 14/11/2024I built the dashboard in January 2023 to track "organic", private manufacturing investments that were inspired (in some part) to invest because of IRA. With that in mind, the dashboard does not include the billions in loans and grants dished out by DOE or pre-IRA investments. 120
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 14/11/2024Amodei & Carter are among House Rs to have signed the letter, but Loudermilk (GA), Wilson (SC), Biggs (AZ), Hudson (NC), Fry (SC), & Carey (OH) are just a few who also see significant job growth in their communities. Mace has Redwood in SC, Spartz has batteries in Indiana, etc... 131
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 14/11/2024What happened to those 18? 13 are back. 2 are TBD. 2 in NY lost. And John Curtis (UT) is now moving to the Senate. So, this cohort should still have a significant say in the process. House maj will be ~+4. But there are also other Reps who stand plenty to gain in their districts. 120
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 14/11/2024🚨 Major 2024 election updates made to the IRA + CHIPS Dashboard: Familiar to some, new to many: 80%+ of investment dollars and 70%+ of jobs are headed to red congressional districts across the country. A 🧵 to understand how this looks moving forward: www.jackconness.com/ira-chips-in... 63624
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 10/11/2024Just look at this. In our most "welcoming" cities, we keep pushing people to their affordability limits. A "our household believes in..." sign isn't going to cut it. Inflation (affordability) pushed people over the edge. Blue cities and those who live in them need to figure it out. 010
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 10/11/2024This election better be a kick in the teeth for the Democratic Party. Traditional blue states - because of unaffordable housing - will see major congressional and electoral college losses soon. Stop pushing people out. Stop with restrictive zoning. Build more housing and bring people in. 120
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 15/10/2024If you are interested in more analysis, the entire city rankings, and policy recommendations on how to address these issues, make sure to check out the report! energyinnovation.org/publication/... 000
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 15/10/2024Results! Our top & bottom-10 cities. San Jose has best MFH accessibility w/ a public charger for every 41 MFH units. Milwaukee the worst at 830 MFH units per charger. Surprisingly (to me), Chicago (64th) and NYC (58th) rank v low even when accounting for low car to work %. 100
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 15/10/2024IMPORTANT NOTE: Our formula also factored in transportation methods to work. For example, 22% of people in NYC drive to work (ACS 2022). Taking total MFH / public EV chargers is misleading. So, total MFH is multiplied by 22% to give us numerator, then divided by total L2s + L3s. 100
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 15/10/2024Big & new @energyinnovation.bsky.social report this morning on the state of EV charging for multi-family housing (MFH). Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 08/10/2024I'm probably speaking for myself here, but I'm pretty floored by the incredible impact batteries are having on our grids in such a short period of time. Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 02/01/2024Fun reminder from @hannahritchie.bsky.social's newsletter this morning: 70% of US wind power is generated in red states. Despite endless anti-renewable energy rhetoric from elected officials in the middle of the country, they know wind is abundant, cheap, and reliable. 030
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 11/12/2023As housing has become more affordable in states like TX/AZ/GA/FL, we've seen a major migration to those places in the past decade. They are also home to less public transit, poor road design, faster streets, & the highest percentage of pedestrian deaths. www.axios.com/2023/06/27/p... 100
Jack Conness @jackconness.bsky.social · 27/11/2023"EV demand is slowing" has been the weird narrative in the media, but if you look at actual data and ignore *vibes*, EV adoption continues to break quarterly records.
