What an odd person.

This isn’t worth arguing about more. Grassley’s quote doesn’t say what you and OP say it said. Whether or not the MAL warrant was justified is a different topic that has been done to death. In this specific instance I’m not outraged that the NYT didn’t go down that rabbit hole again. You are. Ok.

I’m pretty done with this thread but I don’t think that is a fair take in this instance. I don’t like the NYT at all. But all this article was doing was reporting on what Senators were saying and how it relates to Patel. Whether the MAL warrant was justified is just a different topic. Take care.

I understand your point. I think you are overreacting and unrealistic in this specific instance. But that’s just a difference of opinion. Not much else to say. Have a good one.

Hardly. I’m a real person making a valid point. If you want to block me to reinforce your bubble and avoid any ideas you disagree with, go ahead.

Except that the article doesn’t say that. Look. I am no fan of the New York Times. Check my post history. But I think your take here is misplaced. The article quotes Grasley and some others. That’s it. You can disagree with them but attacking the reporter is not the best angle. IMO.

All true. I agree. But what is the “false claim” in the article?

Jack Baughman @jackbaughman.bsky.social · 13/12/2024
I am sorry, but I’m not quite getting your point. I re-read Grasley’s quote. I don’t think anything he said is untrue. As to your question, my experience with search warrants is that they are extremely invasive and disruptive. Frequently homes and businesses suffer huge disruption and damage.

What, specifically, are the “false claims”? And what is the evidence they are false? If there is a case to be made, put it out there. If there is disinformation being published people want to know. Please elaborate. Thank you.

I know that feeling, friend. Please just take it easy today. Don’t do anything to harm yourself. If you need help, ask. Sometimes asking is the hardest thing. But do it anyway.

Thank you for this clear explanation. It sounds very promising. I hope it works.

You are recreating exactly the kind of “elite” class (politicians, journalists, and celebrities) that has people so resentful of the powers that be. But maybe you want that?

Jack Baughman @jackbaughman.bsky.social · 09/12/2024
Fair enough. Thats a reasonable principle. Here are my suggestions for the “Pope”: stop claiming moral superiority; stop taking money from vulnerable poor people; release your “secret archives”; sell your palaces, gold and art; and stop protecting rapists.

Jack Baughman @jackbaughman.bsky.social · 09/12/2024
I agree that getting rid of the death penalty would be a very good thing. It is an abomination. But the idea that the Pope feels entitled to interfere in US affairs is disgusting. He is an evil man. If you are against Russian interference in our elections you should oppose this as well.

Jack Baughman @jackbaughman.bsky.social · 09/12/2024
So now the Vatican is interfering in US affairs? Why is that ok? Some old man in a luxury gowns who claims a special relationship with a mythical man in the sky, and who oversees an organization that protects child rapists can just butt right out.

Why can’t regular people get verified? Why only those in a handful of favored classes?

It is almost never justice. The regulatory state is badly broken.

We don’t know yet. Clearance rate data is released quarterly. In Q3 47 of 98 murders were cleared citywide. About half iss typical.

And how many cops working the case? Compared to whatever other murders happened this week?

Nah. It’s more than that. They want to do all sorts of stuff and know it will be covered up.

Want to know how regulators are reacting to the election? By sending flurries of subpoenas and opening new cases. It’s an effort at job security. “You can’t let me go, I’m doing this big new important case!” There has been a noticeable uptick since November 5.

Completely agree. I have had the experience of arguing against the Government in a sealed courtroom. Guess how well that went! If the Government is not willing to make its case in public it should be dropped. No exceptions.

Jack Baughman @jackbaughman.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
It’s not worth arguing about further. I understand what it is. I just think the post should be labelled differently. You disagree. Thats fine.

Jack Baughman @jackbaughman.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
I have no issue with news organizations charging for content. That isn’t the point. What I don’t like is the unlabeled teaser post. The post does not say that you may have to pay to view the content. I think it should and should be treated like advertising. That’s it.

Have to disagree on this one. It’s advertising.

This is not a post. It is a clickbait ad. If you do click you learn that you can only read the article by signing up and paying money. It is no different than a post from an AI girl looking for “new friends.” Reuters should pay to post #spam, #bluesky should be paid, and the post should be tagged.

So we click on your link only to learn we have to sign up and pay to read the article? This post is a clickbait ad. Maybe include an AI image of a young woman looking for “new friends” next time.

There is a hidden issue here. In states where weed has been legalized, enforcement against the unlicensed trade has dropped significantly. So the people who want to be regulated and pay taxes & fees can’t compete and lose money. So in a legal state, should the illegal dealers be prosecuted? Tricky.

Is it the worst thing ever? Of course not. Is what Kushner did worse than what Hunter did? Sure. But people need to cool it with the lipstick on this pig. Biden has pardoned (I believe) 12 people in four years. One of them is his son? Bad decision.

Jack Baughman @jackbaughman.bsky.social · 02/12/2024
I dunno. It’s the day Team Blue gets to say, “”Yahoo! We get to be just as scummy and self interested as Trump! We finally made it down to his level.” It’s sad. And yeah, go ahead and block me or give me a long lecture about how Trump is worse. I agree he is worse. But Biden did a bad thing.

Great post. IMO one of the big problems of recent years has been the incessant name calling: fascist! Nazi! Libtard! Rino! Media Mob! None of this is helpful. It just divides.

There is barely a movement anymore. We are in such bad shape. Look around. How many birds, or bugs, or worms do you see compared to 50 years ago. Nobody had figured out how to stop the tragedy of the commons.

I would support the appeal. I would be happy if he won. What I don’t support is the pardon (which has now been announced). Have you ever tried to get clemency or a pardon for a client? It is almost impossible. Biden jumping his son to the head of the line is wrong. Two tiers of justice. Again.
