Just curious: Is there a list of banned books? And who bans them? I can think of books on my shelves that would be banned by people from certain quarters.

It is tough, believe me, I know more than most. Quitting smoking, around 25 years ago, was the best thing I did, my most notable achievement that I will ever do. Watching loved ones still puffing on their ciggies is sad, there is no way they see that they are slaves to an addiction, it pisses me off

Democracy Dies in Silence Bill Baskin In what universe should three people with zero military experience, be shaping our military’s future. Musk is a lot like Trump. He fled South Africa when it was his time to serve.

I put one of my old paintings through an AI filter. It doesn't look much different, but "make more photorealistic" instruction gives it a bit of disturbing edge.

He played James Bond in "Casino Royale". Ian Fleming had some respect for him, and I think he was referenced in one of the original Bond novels.

I've always been fascinated by the tale of a carload of people coming across a ghostly troop of Roman soldiers marching across the M6 Toll.

It was. Mind you, I was 20 years younger, I couldn't do it now, regardless of snow. It was the first and last time I went into that pub. I'd gone by train to Brum for a training event. The snow came down, and when I got into Lichfield, it was pandemonium.

I wish I'd have painted that. Slightly disorienting and disturbing, superb.

I remember having to walk from Lichfield Station to our house in Brownhills in deep snow about 20 years ago. The pub was a welcome sight for a convenient break:-)

I saw somewhere that there's a whole museum set up somewhere in the USA, I think it's called Ark Experience or something, a whole reconstructed "ark", complete with simulated animals, including dinosaurs in their "two-by-two" paddocks.

It is some procedural thing to do with trains.

I caught the train from Brum to Lichfield. A train guard was showing a new man the ropes, overheard, "you can remember it from the acronym SAMWISE, you know, out of Lord of the Rings" @roac.bsky.social may be amused. I was intrigued, looked it up, it actually is a thing🙂

My favourite book by Tolkien still remains "The Hobbit", which I read for the first time well over 50 years ago. He was clever enough to include the whole alphabet (futhark) of Old English runes which can be deciphered from the contents of the book.

I painted the dove in 1991, at the request of the then owner. I'm pleasantly surprised it's still there over 30 years later in the historic town of Stony Stratford.

The Brexiteers constantly whinge that it was a democratic referendum, will of the people etc etc,, I wonder how they would feel about another referendum? I voted Remain, and I'd vote Rejoin.

Superb, this is an image that resonates with me. I love pictures that tell a story that you can tell to yourself. For me, "Nighthawks" speaks to me as an imaginary 1960s Manchester UK (sic)

Indeed. That is my point, but there are those who seek to undermine, such as prominent politicians who have their own TV shows.

This is also the case in the UK. There were howls of outrage from certain quarters when a woman was jailed for encouraging people to burn down hotels housing asylum seekers.
