Oh, I’m aware. What he doesn’t know is that I’m working on a musical of my own.

Just been real pessimistic lately and I was hoping I could learn how you stay optometristic about things.

Whaaat?! That can happen?! These knee cap facts are blowing my mind.

Jack Frazee @jack-frazee.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Just learned that babies are born without knee caps and knee caps start developing around two years old. Seems crazy to me that I’ve never heard that before.

Went to the audiologist today fully expecting to find out I was going deaf and got what I can only describe as a glowing review of my hearing. So take it from me kids, loud music with no hearing protection is the key to success.

Sure, sure, I hear you. AI’s got risks or whatever. Hey, you ever seen a machine gun on a robot dog? Pretty cool, huh?

New plan is keep baby alive and happy to the extent I can.
120
Jack Frazee @jack-frazee.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Not because it would not be useful for clients. I just wanted to test it first, let the ethics opinions start emerging, etc. Then I had a baby and all plans went out the window. However, definitely ready for use in legal work assuming the lawyer knows what they’re doing with it.

Jack Frazee @jack-frazee.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
For sure there are. That’s why you review the output, the sources, and what have you. Also, probably worth saying that I do not use it for clients yet. At this point it’s hypotheticals or general information/interests I’m pursuing. I’m enough of a nerd to spend my free time doing this.

One important disclaimer that will sound self serving, but is meant to be an honest PSA: AI is not a lawyer replacement. Definitely boosts lawyer productivity, but should not be substituted for actual legal counsel.

Jack Frazee @jack-frazee.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Many uses of AI for law require fiduciary applications—you can’t put confidential client info into an LLM. For those kinds of things, there are tools like Westlaw’s CoCo, or whatever else. Much better for judicial opinion research too.

What I didn’t fully appreciate until analyzing the data is the same coalition that elects the Speaker often continues voting as a block to moderate potentially partisan bills.
130
Jack Frazee @jack-frazee.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
For example, the Texas House of Representatives is majority Republican. The Speaker of the House is elected by the Representatives. It’s often a bipartisan coalition that elects a moderate from the majority instead of a party line vote.

Jack Frazee @jack-frazee.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
For legislative patterns, many legislative bodies host ftp sites for their institution with the voting data available for download. You can use Claude to download and analyze that data. I learned a lot about voting coalitions, individual legislator effectiveness, and relationships from this.

Same for state budget information. Grueling to read, but easier with AI assistance before personally reviewing line items.

Jack Frazee @jack-frazee.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I find it extremely helpful to put a statute in Claude, ask Claude to summarize it, then read the statute. It makes it easier to move between these things without my brain getting fatigued.

Jack Frazee @jack-frazee.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
One challenge of reading a lot of statutes and regulations is understanding the conceptual framework generally before looking at specific provisions. Since each law is a system and often interacts with other systems, there is a huge transition cost from reading one statute to another.

It is not particularly useful for anything where confidentiality creates blind spots. No surprise there. It is excellent for drafting form documents (although they always need review and tweaking), really good at analyzing voting patterns, great for general summaries of statutes or state budgets.

Law practice has a lot of information that is hidden from these tools (e.g. confidential settlements, court records that are only available through public information requests, hallway conversations between counsel at courts or lobbyists/politicians at legislative bodies, etc.).

Law is interesting. Since ChatGPT came out, I’ve used these tools for hypotheticals to assess what it is good for and what it is not. Prepare for a thread…

This is not a comprehensive review by any means. More a lazy perusal. If any of you are rigorous and engaged in academic research around AI use, please reply with more informed takes and links to peer reviewed papers you’ve published. Would love to read it!

…however, new professionals that fail to learn underlying skills and are over-reliant on AI continue to not learn those skills. 3) Some people lose productivity because they increase the scope of what they’re working on now that they have virtual assistance.

Jack Frazee @jack-frazee.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
A few themes I saw in the research: 1) Decent amount of evidence of productivity gains at the firm level, but insufficient evidence of macro level productivity gains. 2) Some studies show skills compression between novice and experienced professionals, meaning new professionals saw more benefit…

The bsky discussions about AI got me reading a bunch of peer reviewed research last night. Crazy how quickly this research seems potentially obsolete. Respect to the researchers in the academia mines fighting to publish studies that remain relevant for more than a year.
