Alberta judge dismisses NDP court challenge on voter list changes | CBC News
An Alberta judge has thrown out a court challenge filed by the Opposition NDP on restricted voter list rules made by the government last month.

An Alberta judge dismissed the NDP’s court challenge on the government’s voter list restrictions. Judge says gov was well within its powers to make the change and that it doesn’t violate the purpose of the voter list as the NDP argued. NDP says it won’t appeal. Link below:

Also worthwhile to point out that the Edmonton’s shadow council (read those who ran for office but lost last year) is commending Smith for following through on their campaign promises. Here’s two examples but I think there’s more.

Much of the criticism today is that Smith is big-footing the will of Edmonton voters who endorsed the current scheme, and I’ll be curious to see if those councillors bank on that support and risk a recall vote instead of bending the knee. Smith gave the city a 3 month deadline to comply.

Knack also said he wants to stand his ground and it will be really interesting to see how much of a fight the mayor and the pro-infill council bloc puts up. Provincial law allows gov to call a recall vote on mayors councillors if cabinet feels they’re unable to do their jobs.
