New Article in Press: Parental Illness Severity and Risk of Mental Illness in Offspring of Parents With Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder: A Nationwide Register-Based Cohort Study #articleinpress #jaacapopen twp.ai/E5FT5X
Six-panel line graphs showing cumulative risk of mental illness in offspring over ages 0–20 years, comparing family high-risk groups for bipolar disorder (FHR-BP) and parental bipolar controls (PBC). Colored curves represent varying levels of parental illness severity. Across panels, cumulative risk rises steadily through childhood and adolescence, with the steepest increases between ages 8 and 14. Offspring exposed to greater parental illness severity consistently show higher cumulative rates of psychiatric diagnoses, reaching approximately 15%–30% by late adolescence, compared with lower-risk groups. Title: “Parental Illness Severity and Risk of Mental Illness in Offspring of Parents With Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder: A Nationwide Register-Based Cohort Study.”
