It is true in the current market that having a book adapted for the screen gives an author a much better chance at financial security and therefore brings them to being able to write full time, but that isn’t the point! Also it sucks that that is the case tbqhwy!

I think about this a lot, tbh, a side effect maybe of writing for different forms of media all the time, but there are things you can do in a book that you can’t do on screen, there are ways the story works in one form that it doesn’t in another. That’s what makes it cool and interesting!

Adaptation is interpretation! That’s what makes it interesting, that’s why there can be multiple adaptations of the same work and we don’t get tired of it. It’s so much more than just putting a book on screen

This is true of all sectors. Universities, museums and art galleries, orchestras, theatres. And all of this is literally the only significant thing the UK has ever had to offer the world that doesn't involve colonisation. So on top of it's direct financial impact it brings in all the tourist money!

The next time you watch a movie, even one without loads of special effects, look at how long the credits are! Most of those people are not famous, most of them are not doing glamorous jobs, most of them are not making huge amounts of money. And there are more on top of that who don't get a credit!
