The only people who can save what’s left of the USA’s credibility are the voters who show up at the polls in November and deliver a message loud and clear that we’ve had enough of this madman. Until then I wouldn’t expect any dialogue except for Trump disparaging our allies.

Elites hoped to wait Trump out by appeasing him in the short term. It was easier to pay “fines”, refuse to pursue lawsuits, and change your curriculum than to fight Trump at every stop. These elites look weak and lost credibility by kowtowing to a brain addled madman. Say bye to your reputation.

I get your point, but I prefer “they permitted this“. They being MAGA, underinformed voters, Republicans in Congress, and his dysfunctional cabinet. AND, most importantly, conservative Supreme Court members. IMost of us saw that he was an awful person during the 2015 Republican primary.

We can do both. No doubt a lot of Americans are under informed and a majority(!) actually voted for Trump this time around despite his track record of hatred and chaos. But we have to acknowledge that Trump‘s deference to Putin is unusual. There has to be some reason for this.

You miss the point. Trump cares nothing for anyone or anything. He does what he wants, which most of us hate. The one exception is that he continually defends and defers to Putin. He sides with Putin over his own national security advisors. He sides with Putin over Ukraine. Ask yourself why.
