Also, Spencer had been talking about retiring for a bit. Nothing indicates he was fired. Xbox was pulling in record profits and was growing until the AI apocalypse started. I'm sure the "This Is An Xbox" campaign was an emergency pivot to address that as much as it was to regain mindshare.

It was reported that it wasn't Xbox ignoring the S, it was developers not being able to optimize for both and rejecting it. They addressed this at GDC this year with the "Future‑Proof Your Game: Streamlined Workflows for a Multi‑Device World" presentation. It will fix that problem.

Having a family of devices to meet specific, segmented needs is literally the opposite of using a single device to try to meet several needs.

On my gaming PC. I'm over on my work PC, and it's working fine here, so I'll figure it out. I appreciate the response, though. Great article, too. I hope this means they'll consider taking an AMD Advantage PC and slapping an Xbox logo on it so some can transition out of console.

I would love to, but no matter which browser I use or what manual exceptions I make for Windows Central, it crashes out, saying I need to disable adblockers when the site isn't blocked.

As much as I want to play it now, I'm saving it for October. It's been my designated horror game month since I started a childhood tradition of playing Quest for Glory 4 every Halloween. Now that I’m older, I have season-based genres, but October is still my pure horror month, and always will be.

It's Doom. You're asking about Doom.

My point is that once you read the article, there is no deadline implied. There are only proposed benchmarks of a three year plan by Sharma. The Verge just used intentional language in the title for clickbait. Which I'm honestly getting tired of seeing. Especially since I sub to them.

John @j-davis.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
I don't see that from her own words. All I see is, "Xbox will measure progress toward its goals in three “stages,” Sharma said. The first is to return to growth by the end of fiscal year 2027." The only implied "has a year" is from The Verge. There is no ultimatum presented anywhere else.

That's the magic of clickbait headlines. There's literally nothing indicating they're doing anything other than making Xbox profitable instead of being subsidized. You don't restructure and invest in media with Amazon/Netflix or gain Disney/Marvel partnerships for games if you're shutting down.

Oh yeah, it's 2026. People think just saying something makes it true. That trend doesn't just disappear down to "zero" in less than the two years since he said it. You got numbers to back up your "0 chance" claim, or...

I've never bought more indie games, either. I love being able to try them all out, and I assume that GP making them billions is a sign that most agree. I'm sure devs want their games to shine more, but the same complaint was used against Netflix's rise, and now everyone wants a piece.

Spencer said GP resulted in more games being purchased, and I'm one. GP got me to buy more games and deluxe edition upgrades through Xbox, and eventually a Series X, my first console since a 360. Most of the time, I'd avoid buying anything due to an insane backlog of free PC and Steam games.

That would require people to be wary of groupthink instead of weaponizing it, though. I guess that's too much effort.

Oh. I guess I didn't see it like that. Selling a massive company that's "profitable" just cuz a "PR scandal" and "money". Seems so easy. I mean, I thought it was all of the publicly revealed legal info that outlined actual long-term problems, but I guess reddit wisdom has better answers.

Since we're operating on pure speculation here I guess, how many of these would have closed even sooner without these acquisitions? Also, can you explain how another Trump Presidency and a sudden, rapid push into AI in the last five years may have contributed to shifting strategies for everyone?

He says in this report that people are still working on the Avowed sequel and The Outer Worlds 2 DLC. Not sure why people keep reporting Avowed's been canceled.

Jason Schreier reported that there's still a team working on the Avowed sequel and DLC for The Outer Worlds 2.

Why are there so many of you nerds that don't bother reading the damned gifted article? THEY DID NOT STOP DEVELOPMENT ON THE AVOWED SEQUEL.

Even if this outcome is only the result of the establishment of unions at many of these studios, this is still a much better outcome than outright closing the studios and letting their IPs die, which is what we typically see.

John @j-davis.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
The fact these studios are not being completely shut down, but either sold or going back to independence *with full ownership of their IPs and runway funding to get them back on their feet* kind of goes to the opposite to the narrative that she's the Grim Reaper.
