Once again, the US & Israel's warmongering is recklessly endangering civilians around the world, most urgently in Iran. Starmer must stand up to Trump and oppose his and Netanyahu's escalation of another potential forever war. Please sign and share: stoptrump.org.uk/petition-tru...

This profit obsession is why the fossil fuel industry will never decarbonise itself. We need public green energy systems that prioritise communities over profit - a Fossil Fuel Treaty can get us there. Full reaction via @izziemcintosh.bsky.social 👇🏽 www.globaljustice.org.uk/news/vulture...
Text reads: The vultures circling over BP have chosen renewables as their prey. Clean energy would likely spell cheaper bills and better living standards for UK households, but even BP’s £7 billion in profits last year seemingly aren’t enough for super rich investors like Elliott. This profit obsession is why the fossil fuel industry will never be able to decarbonise itself, let alone do so in a way which meets the needs of working people. We need public green energy systems that prioritise communities over profit. The growing calls for a Fossil Fuel Treaty gives us the chance to move toward this in a globally coordinated way, for the public good.”

Of course, it's all BLEAK. But no one man can kill a movement, not even Donald Trump. The Fossil Fuel Treaty is building power around the world for a globally just transition from fossil fuels. Find out more and join us 👇

It's just mind blowing that the government's 'green transition' is set to hand billions in guaranteed income to fossil fuel corporations. We need a real workers-led transition not a fake corporate-led transition. I'm not against CCS per se *but* 1/2 www.ft.com/content/9273...

Police watchdog finds: Forces were underprepared for summer riots. Underestimated the seriousness of far right organising outside asylum accommodation centres & failed to recognise the level of threat from nationalist extremists. Blow me down. How surprising. Shocked. #r4today

It's not top of the headlines here, but what has been happening in Gaza over the past week (and obviously long before) is devastating. Via the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians just now:
Despite Israeli negotiators visiting Qatar to discuss a ceasefire with Hamas, Israel has conducted yet another brutal week of airstrikes across Gaza. Last Thursday, only hours after the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly approved a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, Israel killed thirty Palestinians in a strike on the post office in Nuseirat refugee camp in Central Gaza. In the same day, an Israeli quadcopter drone killed the last orthopaedic doctor in northern Gaza, Saeed Judeh, whilst he was travelling from Kamal Adwan hospital to al-Awda hospital.

A day earlier, at least thirty-eight Palestinians were killed in strikes on Northern and Central Gaza, particularly in Beit Lahiya in the North. In these strikes, journalist Eman Al-Shanti was killed along with her three children and husband, as was the 95-year old father of Amer al-Bayumi. On the same day in Rafah in the South, twelve Palestinians were killed in a drone attack on an aid convoy.

On Sunday, 15th December, at least fifty-four Palestinians were killed in a series of strikes on Gaza that hit two schools. The strikes took place across Gaza. One hit a school in Khan Younis in the South, killing sixteen people. A separate strike on Khalil Aweida school in the North in Beit Hanoun killed at least fifteen people. Further strikes in Central Gaza targeted Nuseirat refugee camp. One man, Yahia al Yazji lost his three-month pregnant wife and his daughter, whilst an Al Jazeera journalist named Ahmed al-Louh was also killed.

Great news. The Fossil Fuel Treaty could play a major role in holding back climate breakdown in a fair & just way for climate vulnerable communities. As a major historic polluter, the more pressure the UK feels to join this treaty, the better. Sign our call here: act.globaljustice.org.uk/node/3262

Truly horrifying result of the carelessness and cruelty of the UK's immigration system. Mazeedat's horrible and preventable death came after the British state refused to care for her. The reason for that refusal? She didn't have the right papers to her name. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...

Terrible CoP failure. Reverse gear on fossil fuel phase out and climate finance. Our take 👇 Only hope is building ever an ever stronger movement for an end to the fossil fuel era, a just, people led transition, massive redistribution domestically and globally.

It's Climate and Migrant Justice Day✊🌏 People have a right to move. They also have a right to stay in their homes and communities. The climate crisis is taking that from many. We need to face down the fossil fuel industry and #ProtectPeopleNotPolluters. @climatejusticeuk.bsky.social

A word on the Allison Pearson free speech row, and what she describes as a ‘Kafkaesque’ threat to it. We asked her on @thenewsagents.bsky.social to discuss. She said: ‘No. And if you get any aspect of the story wrong my lawyers will be watching.’ Gotta love a free speech warrior 🤷🏻‍♂️

Found this really useful re farmers' protest/the budget. Recommend this thread and @taxjusticeuk.bsky.social for the facts about tax rises - what works and what could be done better. As well as some of Jeremy Clarkson's motivations for wading in (spoiler: they might not be entirely selfless).
