I can only speak to Lloyd, but yes, I would say his connection to Elemental Powers is influenced/aided by his personal connections with the OG Ninja. I’m not going to codify any special connection to the Elements of Creation, though it’s certainly possible.

Spitz taught him... mostly. Spitz was a very early reader because he camped out in the Serpentine library (From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler-style) before ending up in the LoLT. The library had learning aids, but they were no replacement for a real teacher. He gets words wrong.

Doc didn't change Geo's name. It came up in conversation about his past and I threw out that in my head, Geo is short for Geoder. The Munce that (briefly) raised him named him after geodes because he's purple and because it starts with a "G" (because they saw him as more Geckle than Munce).
