Man it's still so endearing...it's definitely more enjoyable if you know the book but if you don't, its still super fucking funny 🤣 I kind of wish they'd do a proper full on adaptation now though - it's such a good story 😭😭😭

I think the politicking, character development, and overall production were all super well executed but...I really can't deal with all discrepancy in medieval technology 💀 Ignoring this though, it was still pretty enjoyable!

Okay my honest to gawd only gripe with this story is that the level of technology doesn't make sense...how are you so fucking advanced when it comes to suppressants but... haven't figured out vitamin C cures scurvy... like please think about this logically... 😭

Actually the OST choice is pretty interesting! Composition definitely sounds more traditional orchestral style but the instruments they used are definitely not very traditionally european

Naph @ Ivory Crescent @ivory-crescent.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

It's supposedly set in a medieval AU (despite the fact that the characters all have Chinese names LMFAOOOOO)

Naph @ Ivory Crescent @ivory-crescent.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

I'm not sure how technologically advanced this world is but... They have syringe type things to deliver suppressants into the bloodstream. So if it's truly a medieval setting then (1) theyre way too advanced and (2) I imagine it must be super expensive to produce these suppressants

Naph @ Ivory Crescent @ivory-crescent.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Maybe my brain is just wired this way but I do find it interesting that religion is used to maintain and enforce gender norms and the status quo in this world/setting (it's technically a fantasy medieval setting populated with Chinese people 😂)

I can sort of put in the extra work to make the characters and their motivation make sense but like bro I shouldn't be doing all the work 💀 (I did really enjoy the CVs' performance though - 袁铭喆和马正阳声线真是配一脸)

I actually really wanted to like the AD but I feel like the scriptwriter really didn't do a good job with the adaptation (some parts felt super rushed and bc they'd censored some of the smut that might have served a plot purpose, it was a bit of a rough time

I read the OG on haitang and it was mindblowing bc it was set up like a pwp (the MC is intersex...like 80% of the pwp novels on that site lol) but then plot kicks in and you're like wait hold on I didn't know we're now playing 3D CHESS 🤣
