Our democracy depends on checks and balances, accountability, and leaders who respect the rule of law.   With so much at stake, this year's midterm elections are a critical moment for our country. The future of our democracy is on the line, and every voice deserves to be heard.

Happy National Space Week!   We toured facilities across FL’s Space Coast as part of the Nancy Grace Roman Telescope launch and saw firsthand the work driving America’s future in space.   Continued investment in space exploration means new discoveries and new opportunities right here in Maryland.

Three years after the October 7 terrorist attacks on Israel, we remember the lives lost and all those whose lives have been shattered by the war that followed. We must continue working to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and achieve a lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians.

AI is changing everyday life for everyday people, yet they still don’t have a seat at the table.   We need real oversight and accountability that puts people first. Innovation cannot come at the expense of the people it’s supposed to serve.

Seniors are paying nearly $500 more in Medicare premiums. Now Trump wants to hand them $90 and call it a favor.   Meanwhile, I met with healthcare and Medicaid leaders to hear what his cuts mean for patients and providers.   Our seniors deserve lower costs, not a desperate midterm stunt.

AI isn’t taking a 7 week recess. Congress shouldn’t either. We have bipartisan legislation on the table in the House to address the risks of AI. But we can’t debate it, improve it or pass it when Speaker Johnson sends the House home. We should be in Washington doing our jobs, not running from it.

I’ve been on the move recently, meeting with leaders across housing, health care and our military. No matter the topic, these conversations help me stay connected to the issues affecting Marylanders and the people working on them every day.

Two years ago, we helped secure federal funding for Insulators Local 24 to expand workforce training. Yesterday, we saw that investment in action.   During Maryland Economic Development Week, I joined the City of Laurel to celebrate Local 24 and the good-paying careers they’re building.

Inspectors General are supposed to be independent watchdogs, not political appointees who can be pushed out for doing their jobs.   That’s why I introduced the Inspectors General Modernization Act to establish 10-year terms and require cause for removal.

Hosting the Quantum World Congress at UMD showed just how much potential we have to lead the future of quantum.   But innovation can’t come at the expense of Maryland families.   We can lead in innovation without leaving Marylanders with the bill.

Sickle Cell Awareness Month is a reminder that awareness must lead to action.   Yesterday at Children’s National, I joined Warriors and advocates to discuss new treatments and how our Congressional Sickle Cell Disease Caucus can keep driving progress.

I was glad to join UMD, Gov. Moore, Lt Gov. Miller, and other leaders for the Quantum World Congress conference right here in the Capital of Quantum- College Park, MD.   The conversations that we had last week made one thing clear: quantum technology is moving quickly, and Maryland is in 1st place.

Our young people aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow. They have a voice that matters right now.   From DeMatha High School to Howard University, I enjoyed talking with the next generation of leaders and hearing directly from them.   Always glad to be on the move with our youth!

If your vote didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be working so hard to block it.   This administration has attacked voting rights on all fronts b/c they know the tides are changing. This election is the most consequential one in recent times.   Know your rights. Make your voice heard. Show out and vote.

Maryland is building the Capital of Quantum right here in Prince George’s County.   I joined Gov. Moore and partners to celebrate the opening of the new Discovery Center in College Park, home to Microsoft’s new quantum research center and space for the next generation of quantum startups.

Trump can't stop with the distractions. He's now banned CNN, MSNOW, and Politico from the White House.   Meanwhile, Americans haven't forgotten about the economy.   Congress must stay focused on working families while holding this Administration accountable.

AI is advancing fast, and Congress cannot afford to move slowly. We need guardrails that hold AI companies accountable when they put Americans at risk. At the same time, government needs to work with scientists and industry leaders on technological safeguards that can keep pace with the technology.

Trump can’t stop breaking promises to the American people. After promising “tariff” and “DOGE” dividend checks that never came, he’s now promising $5,000 if Republicans win the midterms. The American people are not for sale. Stop with the broken promises and lies. @groundwork.bsky.social

Republicans promised to lower costs. Instead, families are paying more at the grocery store, including nearly 12% more for ground beef than around this time last year. @housedemocrats.bsky.social will continue to fight to lower the cost of groceries and make life more affordable for every American.

Data centers may be part of our future, but Maryland families should not be stuck footing the bill for Big Tech’s growth.   If these projects strain local resources or disrupt our communities, residents deserve a real say in what gets built and where.

Members of Congress know where the line is. We have a responsibility not to cross it.   Young staffers come to Capitol Hill hoping to make a difference and build their careers. They should never have to navigate misconduct from someone who holds power over them.

The March on Washington showed the power of people standing together and demanding better from their country.   63 years later, that work continues. For our rights, our families, and our future, we’ve got to bring ’em out, raise our voices, and keep moving forward. @cbc.house.gov

Keeping the government open matters, especially for the thousands of federal workers and families who call Maryland home.   But that doesn’t mean giving Republicans a pass. We need to keep the government running while fighting to lower costs and hold the Trump Administration accountable. @npr.org

Trump is trying to restrict mail-in voting and force states to turn over voter rolls, raising serious questions about his intentions. Meanwhile, Trump voted by mail AGAIN this year. We should be making it easier for eligible Americans to vote, not harder.

Students across Maryland head back to school tomorrow, and back-to-school costs are climbing. Families are feeling it everywhere from school supplies to the lunch table. Parents should not have to keep paying more just to give their kids the basics they need to learn, grow, and succeed.

61 years ago, brave Americans crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge and made the "good trouble" John Lewis called us to make. Their courage led to the Voting Rights Act becoming law. Today, as voting rights face attacks by the President on down, we honor their legacy by defending every American's vote.

The overwhelming majority of immigrants are doing exactly what every family hopes to do: work hard, raise their children, and contribute to their communities.   We cannot allow fear and political theater to justify policies that continue tearing families apart and costing innocent lives.

Maryland is home to some of our nation's largest federal agencies and thousands of hardworking public servants. They, and every American worker, deserve a wage that keeps up with the cost of living. Seventeen years is long enough. It's time to raise the federal minimum wage.

No one is above the law. If an ICE agent murders someone, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law just like anyone else. No badge should shield anyone from accountability.

The Trump administration painted itself into a corner and now the American people are paying the price.   An illegal war. Rising gas prices. Contradictory messaging. No clear strategy.   America deserves leadership grounded in law, credibility, and accountability.
