It Takes a City (ITAC) is a small charity with a big reach. We provide a number of services that support some of Cambridge’s most vulnerable rough sleepers and the many with nowhere to call 'Home'.

We are looking for people with a large family or estate car who are willing to volunteer on an ad-hoc basis to collect donations from around the city and deliver them to our site in Chesterton. We will cover any mileage incurred. Please email info@itac.org.uk to find out more.

We are delighted to introduce Ellie Barton and Harry Hubbard, who are spending the summer working with us as part of the Laidlaw Foundation Scholars programme. Ellie is currently studying at Murray Edwards College, whilst Harry is at Pembroke College. It’s great to have them onboard.

Clare College is celebrating its 700th anniversary this year. Throughout the Easter Term, the College Chapel has chosen to support our work with those experiencing homelessness in Cambridge via their Sunday service collections. We thank them for thinking of us.

Not once but twice last week, teams from Cogentia Healthcare Consulting (cogentia.co.uk) joined us at the site where we deliver our Crossways Winter Provision and our new 176 Summer Provision. The teams really got stuck in. We are very grateful for their help.

The team from The Cambridge Building Society chose a perfect day to volunteer at Crossways! They took advantage of the sunshine this morning to give our pergola a much-needed repaint. They're moving indoors this afternoon to help Barry paint the corridors. We thank them all for the support.

It’s a busy few weeks for us at Crossways, as we continue with the ongoing refurbishment of the building, including our guest rooms. Our sincere thanks to Sawston Carpets & Flooring for removing the old and laying new carpets in several of the rooms, providing the installation on a pro bono basis.

This week, we want to thank Saffron Walden Garden Centre (www.saffronwaldengardencentre.co.uk) for their generous donation of bedding plants, which professional gardener and volunteer Suzie Nicholson collected and planted for us on one of her regular visits to Crossways.

Kate and Joe Rham ran this years' Cambridge Half marathon to honour Lesley Crocker, their friend, who passed away unexpectedly last year. As an employee, then trustee and volunteer, Lesley was a passionate supporter of our work. So far, they have raised over £700!

We were delighted when Peter Burrows and colleagues from The Cambridge Building Society visited Crossways to deliver a van load of items generously donated by customers via their Giving Tree campaign. We look forward to continuing to work with them in 2026, as one of their community partners.

We were delighted when professional gardener Suzie Nicholson joined Barry, our Volunteer Coordinator, to cast her expert eye over the communal garden at Crossways. Suzie had lots of inspiring ideas on how we can involve residents in turning the garden into a lovely space to relax.

Yesterday, the H&S team from Bidwells volunteered to give The Haven a refresh. Elisabeth Silver, our CEO, popped in to see the results last night. We echo her thanks from all at ITAC and the women who will continue to use this vital safe, overnight space in the city centre. (Loving the lilac!)
