My cat and the fox seem to coexist fairly peacefully (apart from the spraying 😷). This was almost a close encounter.

010

More wildlife.. This fox is a regular visitor and occasionally brings "gifts" from the neighbours bins. On this occasion, it decided to bury its treasure under the back fence. I popped out the next day to see what was so precious. There it was, a very large scotch egg, just under the surface!

120

A very comfortable looking set-up. Dinner well earned.

010

I can recommend the pipistrelle mini detector. It's not super cheap, but it works well either stand-alone, through headphones, or attached to the phone with the BatGizmo app.

101

As far as gizmos go, it's very good.

Common and soprano pipistrelle bats out the back earlier. The soprano variants are distinguishable by their higher pitch and links to organised crime.

120

I've really enjoyed using the "Pipstrelle Mini" bat detector this year. Well worth the money and a good step up from the DIY thing I previously used.

That'll be it. They're right across from The Haven. Purveyors of a mighty breakfast.

Great turnout for the national demo in Glasgow this afternoon. A very dignified and mindful silent march through the city streets.

Weakest track on that album, according to me that is.

.....and still responsible for some of the worst CW on the air. 😂

That's your penance for eating food in the cinema. It should be banned... 💪

Almost forgot to take the obligatory radio photo up on Ben Cleuch (GM/SS-059) this afternoon. It's not the biggest of hills, but it's deceptively steep. 12 in the log on 20m CW, using the QMX and a telescopic vertical. ✊

Alternatively, drill a hole through the plastic bolt and run your wire through that. Works a treat 👍

An enjoyable hour up on spartleton hill (GM/SS-182) earlier this evening. 26 in the log on 20m and 40m CW using the Xiegu x6200 and an EFHW antenna. No records broken but good fun, as always.

Nobody in their right mind should buy any newly launched Xiegu radio until the firmware has been proven to work as advertised. Their track record is atrocious.

"Freqout pedal, my arse". The Bobfather expresses his opinion on modern effects pedals. He's more of a simple signal path guy.

An enjoyable afternoon/evening up on Black Hill, firing off the dits and dahs to those that could hear me. Ok results on 20m, so-so on 40m and a couple across the pond on 17m. Still using the telescopic vertical. It's an easier set-up than the EFHW but I'm not convinced it's a better performer.

Saturday evening provided me the opportunity to capture this, probably one of my finest aviation shots. Behold the mighty C-17 Globemaster, flanked by two Typhoons as they fly over Edinburgh castle. Think I might have this one framed.

The LA Philharmonic were ridiculously good this evening, up at the Usher Hall. First half was Beethoven 6. Second half was Thomas Adès "Inferno", which was just incredible.

Valiant effort. I'll raise you "Sofia Portanet" with some excellent B52's style catchiness. Stick with it - it rewards well. youtu.be/ymNPA1etcw4?...

The Fadades school of video production. Excellent.

Yes, but imagine the joy of that poor maskless welding apprentice, as they travelled in for their first day on the job.

100

My proper camera is borked (again) so I resorted to holding an ND 1000 filter in front of the phone instead. It's like welding mask glass 😂

An excellent evening! Solar shenanigans, followed by Jazz at the Lincoln Centre Orchestra, up at the usher hall.

020

Bit of an iffy shot from the phone. I was over in Newhaven.

Ronan MM0IVR @itsronan.bsky.social · 08/08/2026

That's a great shot, Sir! I watched from Newhaven and we had some good gaps in the clouds. There was even an odd inverted rainbow directly overhead at one point

I'm just back from seeing Jeremy Corbyn in conversation - the absolute polar opposite to gammon Clarkson

Of course not. It also takes ridiculous amounts of energy, water and environmental damage, not to mention most of the planets memory and GPU production capacity. Add to that, the stolen artwork used as "training material", without even a hint of recognition of reimbursement. AI art is theft.
