I guess I’m collecting cats. This handsome fella showed up a couple weeks ago and hasn’t left our porch since. I call him Shadow, cause he follows me everywhere when I’m outside. He also has no clue what personal space is. #cats

I’ve tried unsuccessfully several times now to dig up and overwinter pepper plants. This year I’m trying something different. Before the first frost I’m going to take young stem cuttings and rooting them into new plants. 🌱 #zone6garden

Trying a new Italian squash (rugosa friulana) since the SVB bastards took out my normal green ones. They are quite tasty and more firm. I may have to just plant these from now on. 🌱 #zone6garden

It’s great because you don’t have to worry if the recipe is safe to can or not and can experiment with flavors more.

Charring up some homegrown veggies for some bomb salsa. It tastes even better knowing you grew all the flavors! Well except for the onion but shhh we won’t talk about that. 🌱 #salsa 🍽️

If there’s a spiderweb in the vicinity, you can guarantee that I’ll walk through it. Sometimes I’ll even walk the same path twice and hit a web on the second pass, 2 seconds later. Like what!?

Well this is a son of a bitch. Been pretty overwhelmed with 5 kittens we rescued about two weeks ago and things were finally getting easier with them. Then last night had to take my own adult cat to the vet to the tune of $600 because she was throwing up and bloody stool. Fuck me I guess 😭 #pets

It’s been fun watching them grow and the personalities develop.

😆 The second one was pretty mild with just a hint of spicy.

Made a tomato onion focaccia today. I’m the sharing type but I don’t think it’s going to last long enough. 😋 It’s pretty dam good! 🍽️ #baking #bread

Well with the flooded backyard, I had to bring in the kittens I found yesterday. They were pretty rough but I think they’ll be ok until I find a place to take them. #kittens

Interesting. Thank you. I really want a canister for the ease of getting into all spaces and under things but I worry I’ll hate it.

This is my garden flooded, for the second time this year 😩. Things struggled but survived after the first one. Not sure I’ll get lucky twice. 🌱 #zone6garden

New England asters, I want to grow them next year but I hate floppy flowers. What are you planting in front or around them to keep them up and happy? I’m in Chicago zone 6. Black eyed Susan? Grasses? Fill me with your knowledge. 🌱 #zone6garden

Crazy for zone 8 no? Or are you in the hot and humid south where the heat punches you in the face?

Joe @itsjoe.bsky.social · 28/07/2026

Finally! With a week of flooding, 100+ temps every other week, I feel like most of my garden is so far behind. Now almost into August and I finally have a tomato that is breaking into red. 🌱 #zone6garden

That’s happened to me before too. They were even laminated and the sun made the marker disappear like magic lol.

Well oops! I didn’t realize how big this beet was until today. 🤣 The thing has to weigh close to 10 pounds. Hopefully it’s not woody. 🌱 #zone6garden

Am I crazy or does it seem like there are less pollinators this year? My garden is usually brimming with hover-flies, bees and other friendlies, but it just seems off this season. 🌱 #zone6garden #bees

Green June beetle aka figeater. Big, metallic green and flies link a drunk pilot. Usually have one that hangs around all summer. This year there are three or four and I’m having to dodge their hilariously inept flying skills. 🌱 #zone6garden #insects

Saw an orange and black insect flying near my squash. Quickly rushed over to kill what I thought was going to be a vine borer moth, but turned out to be a parasitic wasp. Whew!! Although this wasp does focus on swallowtail caterpillars, so not really a fan of that. 🌱 #zone6garden #insects

Mutant garden things. Was out dead heading my calendula this afternoon and found this oddity. Two new flower stalks growing out from inside an old flower that’s seeding out. Have you ever seen something like this? 🌱 #zone6garden #flowers
