Prompt #12 // Fusion #FFXIVWrite2026 Ellipsus link: ellipsus.com/read/34a1miO... Tumblr link: pulse-oflife.tumblr.com/post/8276727...

She set her philosophical musings aside for the moment and let herself sink deeper into the rhythms of casting, drawing upon her own aether to do so. It was a slightly unfair advantage she had, when it came to it. There was something about being the Warrior of Light that gave her deeper reserves of aether. Alisaie had complained about it on the First, even before the fight with Emet-Selch - with Hades - and whatever had happened there with Ardbert.

There were limits to it, of course, as there were limits to all things. It was simply another thing she was aware of, as in tune with her aetherial reserves as she was with the flow of spells drawing upon it.

It was hard, though, to look at the Endsinger and stand tall, completely alone. She could feel the whispers of despair, tendrils seeking to find purchase within her. She gave herself a moment to let the feeling wash over her - this wasn't fair, why was it always her, what was the point of fighting if she'd only be doing it again and again and AGAI--

There came a knocking sound, as if something large was attempting to break through the Endsinger's Ultimatum field.

"What were you thinking?" X'rhun thundered in the next room. Kirah's ears went flat against her head at the sound; he wasn't scolding her at the moment, but his stern tone put her in mind of her Padjali teachers. Arya had pushed herself a touch too hard in their last training session, causing her to nearly pass out on the way back to Revenant's Toll. Usually the trio of Red Mages were content to spend time in the aetheryte square but Arya's weakness had required them to adjourn to Rowena's instead.

X'rhun wasn't truly angry at either of them. He was just more conservative when it came to Arya's limits. Kirah tended to a different mindset, in that she preferred to press against whatever limits there were instead of stopping well before they were met. Unfortunately, it had backfired today.

Apparently the codex was written in an older style, where the scribe had chosen to turn the document when starting a new line. This created a document that was nigh unreadable at first glance and only became decipherable once the trick was known.

"Papa," Keryn said in the serious tone a child used when they had an important question. "What does that sign say?"

They were bound for Ul'dah, and had reached Thanalan. The sign Keryn indicated was a bit far off but still easily readable even at this distance.

"That's the sign for Highbridge," came the laconic reply. The pair were seated in the front of the wagon, while the rest of the family rode in the back. Keryn nodded and squinted at the sign as if trying to make out the letters.

The Scion's secretary hadn't been prepared for the influx of letters the Waking Sands had received once word had gotten out about the new Warrior of Light, Keryn Trevelyan. Some of them were easy to disregard, letters swearing that they had seen her and were in love with her, and others of that nature. Some she'd handed over to Thancred to read, the tips of her ears burning a bright red from just a few sentences.

Keryn wrinkled her nose at the smell of smoke coming from a corner of the campsite. "Mama, is Kai trying to make jerky again?" she complained with a scowl on her face at the memory of the last attempt. She could see the field crafted smoker, which sort of resembled a bush except with a fire at the base, but didn't see anyone tending to it.

Somehow the Scions and Kan-E-Senna had thought her the most capable to deal with the Lord of Levin. As if a regular Shroud thunderstorm didn't find her hiding under a bed at the first peal of thunder.

Alas, for her crime of being resistant to tempering, Kirah now found herself having to travel within an area of the Shroud one usually avoided, all to try and reason with a primal who could summon lightning.

The next day broke, with them all in formation on the field of battle. As an archer, he had found himself to the rear, stationed next to a troop of mages from Ul'dah.

Through the morning haze, the Garleans likewise lined up. Two forces, ready to fight.

No one could have predicted how the day would end.

Keryn stared at the book in front of her, experiencing what was not her first or likely last moment of intense deja vu. It was a simple ledger style book, filled with names both real and assumed, though apparently none of them were her own. At least, not that Mother Miounne had been able to find.

The keys sat heavy in Kirah's pocket, the added weight still new and unfamiliar. She was nervous about what the keys represented. As they were the keys to the small house she'd finally purchased in the Goblet, there were several layers to unpack in order to understand the particular flavours of her nervousness.

Please enjoy my silly baby boys, who are gimli (tabby) and orion (the other one). Gimli is a big coward who is scared of everything unless food is involved and demands a blanket for to sleep in during the day. Orion is a menace and demands attention from everyone.

Gimli (playing with his tail) and Orion (helping with wedding centerpieces)

A large tabby cat is curled up on top of a beige carpeted cat tower. He has caught his tail and is giving it a bath.

A small black cat sits on someone's lap. He has a wreath of fake greenery and lavender around his neck and looks unsure about what's going on.
