something really improbable happened to me as i was playing overwatch. you can see from the video that i lock onto sojourn and doctrine, but somehow genji dived in front of the gun and took the shot that was meant for doctrine. (images below)

broke out deckers, the co-op cyberpunk deck building game by ricky royal of bg youtube fame. it's really good! initially felt a little themeless but i couldn't stop thinking about it today. was the very first game i bought at spiel last year after wanting its predecessor, renegades, for years.

me teaching deckers with a little extendable pointy hand

the game and its colorful components laid out under its cyberpunk box

i made this twilight imperium meme five years ago lmaooo IT ACTUALLY IS THE THIRD WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 2026

before playing twilight imperium: omg i hear this game is really complicated and takes forever to learn and to play, so intimidating!

starting to play: oo rules are straightforward but lots of interesting player interactions! wait round 1 is over? that was only 10 minutes!

most of the game: oh my fucking god if you take that planet from me i swear by the fury of my ancestors you shall know neither peace nor respite. i shall marshall the greatest fleet the galaxy has ever seen and scour you from the - oh you'll give me two trade goods for it? neat, no problem then, see you at the next council session!

end of the game: goddammit dee won again

after the game: i can't stop thinking about twilight imperium, literally the only thing i want to do right now is play twilight imperium. i'll be telling stories of this game for literally the rest of my gaming life. so what if it took 1 hour per player, it was one of the most epic games i've ever played!

after after: so who's free in the third weekend of september 2026?

my favorite deck builder is doing a 10th anniversary edition! Dale of merchants is incredible. Fun combos but thoughtful gameplay. Each animal deck plays differently from each other and you combine them to make totally unique games every time. like luck? add polecats! like stealing? add raccoons!

interesting. creative director says the touchstone is 'deadwood in space' and there will be a beginning, middle, and ending for your character. so for those who don't know deadwood, incredible show. tiny town on the american frontier. dirty, grimy, full of people who hated but needed each other

my 4 favorite scifi revolvers, ranked in terms of how good it feels to fire them blackwatch peacekeeper - overwatch, wielded by cassidy. designed to give the feel of half life's magnum pistol wingman - apex legends, the player blaster - jedi survivor, cal kestis p4 senator - helldivers, the player

chunky black scifi revolver with red accents, a heel spur on the back of the grip, and not one but two laser sights, one mounted above the barrel and one below it.

chunky steel wood and polymer pistol with cylinder in line with the frame

chunky revolver in black with a yellow accent on the frame and integrated laser sight in front of the trigger guard

played super skill pinball by @gengelstein.bsky.social today. really clever and fast moving roll and write. my favorite mechanism is how you're slowly running out of ways to put the ball back in play and having to accept the inevitable (or nudge the table and hope you don't tilt)

the other big example from mass effect is because we knew our target price and box size, we knew that enemies could not be minis and so we could design them to have information printed onto the tokens + and be double sided to have info on the other side

apex legends really has some incredible gun animators. this is incredible stuff. video shows the heavenly lance r301 assault rifle skin. pearlescent white and gold, with parts that spin and extend and pop out and spin as the weapon gets kills.

had the opportunity to playtest this and it *rules*. simple rules up front but crunchy and epic once the dice start flying. the best thing about it is the sense of 'all hope is lost! surely we are doomed!' swinging to 'WAIT THERE'S A CHANCE!' to 'NOPE TOTALLY DOOMED AAAAH' multiple times per game

kings gambit all laid out on a big table

16 has a really cool resolution system where damage is dealt by rolls, but you and enemies defend with your deck. your deck depends on what weapons you have, deck builder style, so some guns have more defense while others are exceptional up close etc. demons defend with their special ability deck

for contrast: the instrument panels of a ferrari formula 1 car, the airbus a380, the artemis 2, and the f35 fighter jet. maybe there's something i'm missing but when i see cars with big control screens instead of buttons i feel like there's only downside except for being pretty

all pictures show controls with big chunky switches, levers, buttons. screens yes, but surrounded by instruments and controls
