A big congratulations to Dr Marguerite Fortin on her recent win for the Best Student/Intern Presentation at the University Hospital Galway ED Research Day! Dr Fortin is the Project Lead for the SLAMED study that looked at simulation-based learning among medical students in EM.

Conclusions: The study highlights that although many EM clinicians are comfortable with EoLC discussions, significant challenges persist, particularly concerning training and infrastructure. Addressing these issues could enhance the standard of EoLC in Irish EDs.

Here are the key points! 1. Comfort with EoLC Discussions: While 80% of clinicians with over 10 years of experience felt comfortable discussing EoL issues with patients and families, only 32% of those with less than 5 years’ experience reported the same comfort level.
