The academic year is off to a good start. Still a bit shell-shocked how time is flying faster and faster. Getting ready for a live performance soundtrack to the 1922 Nosferatu in New Haven, CT on Oct 30th (2 shows) with my Sub-Verse compatriots. It will be intense. I promise you. #nosferatu
Wide panoramic shot of my group Sub-Verse performing live at the Neighborhood, Music School in New Haven, Connecticut several years ago: with me on the left, sitting with a piano and synthesizers, Thomas Kozumplik in the center with an epic percussion kit, and Tom Burnett on the right with keyboards and, microphone, and beautiful lighting by Jamie Burnett

Ok, first few days of teaching: ✅ I realized I miss it a bit, and was glad to see my old and new students. Pianos still need to be tuned. STAT! They painted the room over the August break, and thankfully they did not paint over my growth chart wall! ❤️

Hi! Back to teaching in a school. Taught privately in my own studio over the summer (and will continue to do so, since I make DOUBLE the amount). At least I have a nice room with 2 grand pianos (the upright is mine, and I’m selling it). Although it would have been nice if the pianos were in tune 🤔😂

Verrry slowly re-introducing wheat flour into my life (after 25 years) crumb by crumb, then one small bite every few days, etc. I will never eat “normal USA wheat” again, but I’m using Jovial’s Einkorn wheat flower which has been shown to be much better tolerated by those with sensitivities!

This afternoon, members of the Adult Advanced Piano Performance Class gave a wonderful end-of-semester recital. Bravissimo!! I had to step in for someone who couldn’t be there, and played some Philip Glass Etudes. #AAPPC #piano #recital #concert #classicalmusic #musicsky
Jane Bugbee (age 90!!!) performed a beautiful composition that pays tribute to Rebecca Raffaelli who started this class over 30 years ago. Jane Hanselman performed Brahms and Chopin beautifully. Me performing Glass etudes no 6 and 4 from book 1. The 1880-era Steinway C felt a tad rickety but managed to do the job for me. “The Seaside Trio” with Linda Hinz at the piano performing a larger 4 movement trio for flute, cello and piano work by Farrenc

FISHER
R
enée B. Fisher was an elegant writer, accomplished musician, dedicated teacher, and a devoted wife and mother.
She was the author of the widely acclaimed Musical Prodigies: Masters at an Early Age (1973), the first book on the
topic when it appeared. The book included chapters on prodigies including Mozart, Paganini, Anton Rubenstein, Adelina Patti, Arturo Toscanini, Lorin Maazel, Ruth Slenczynska, Philippa Schuyler, Yehudi Menuhin, and Louis Armstrong. Armstrong was delighted with what she wrote about his childhood: "The whole time I was reading your book I could see my hometown, New Orleans. Keep on telling it like it is, or was," he wrote.
Yehudi Menuhin liked the book as well, and wrote the foreword. Ms. Fisher was also the author of Heroes of Music (1974), a book for young adults about the composers who changed the shape of Western music - composers such as Monteverdi, Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, List, Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Berlioz, Bartok, Wagner, Debussy, Verdi, Stravinsky, Gottschalk, Gershwin, and Ives. She contributed articles and music reviews frequently to national and scholarly publications, and at the time of her death was researching a book about a fascinating musical family that included one of Europe's most celebrated nineteenth-century opera stars.
Piano was Ms. Fisher's favorite instrument and she enjoyed playing a broad repertoire, from classical to chamber music to jazz and blues. She performed piano professionally and also composed for the piano. Ms. Fisher played string bass (she was a member of the Norwalk Symphony and the Bridgeport Symphony) as well as clarinet, vibraphone, organ, accordion, guitar, and other instruments. She organized and conducted a number of vocal groups as well.
Ms. Fisher taught music and music education at the University of Bridgeport, Brooklyn College, Long Island University, Southern Connecticut State College, and in the public school systems in New York and Westport, CT
