Looking up at a "cliff" that's a thick layer of aggregate material, glacial till deposited by repeated glaciations. The topmost layer is harder and more coherent than the ones below it, and so resists erosion better than the lower ones; but it's not continuous either and so there are bits that are protected from rainfull while the areas around it are not, and gets quickly washed away. These form the hoodoos - a "tower" of the looser aggregate capped by a segment of more solid rock.

You can get a sense of the scale from the full-grown trees in the frame.

Standing at the edge of a river, with forest on either side, many trees starting to turn yellow. In the distance, mountains, and above, cloudy/clear sky. Power lines are strung across the river and they have globes on them which I think are there to make the lines more visible to aircraft (but that's me assuming).

This is Fuzzy Fogtop, in a book I had when I was very small: archive.org/details/triu... In retrospect, he appears to have early inspired me.

He had never been outside his hometown of Pinsk, but now he was eager to try out the big world. He wanted to see the strange places he had heard about. He wanted to find out how people lived there, how they talked, what sorts of clothes they wore. In short, Fuzzy was ready to travel.
