The #chess world has a new World Champion, the 18 year old Gukesh. Congratulations on his victory, and a worthy one through his tenacity and resilience. Many players would have broken after game 12, but Gukesh held his nerve. This is one player at the start of an amazing career...

Reminds me of the Gove Cameron comic thingy:

Independence day style alien invasion (before Brexit). Cameron in Downing Street looking out the window at alien spaceship, Gove volunteers to fly a fighter plane and shoot all the aliens. Cameron points out he's just the Education Secretary and never flown a fighter plane. Gove insists he can do it, despite no military training. He argues he used to be a journalist for The Times, he wrote articles and has strong opinions on aliens. Gove knows he can do this job. Next scene Gove flying a fighter jet all wobbly, Cameron watches, he misses the alien spaceship and presumably crashes. Silhouette of Cameron holding his head in both hands in regret.

Fair does... good problems to have. Congrats to bluesky on the recent influx of literate and thoughtful people. I'll be the quietly supportive one, not the complainy one. :-) When things settled down, maybe an outage block of butterflies happily fluttering, a warm-down screen?

I haven't done an intro, so ... umm... I'm a retro-gamer and collector, for the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC. (My modern gaming journey stopped after Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind on the PC) I also collect chess books. I have delusions of playing chess tournaments again.

The pride of my collection: My wall of ZX Spectrum games in double-jewel and clamshell cases. All tested and working.

I'm also tracking my progress in a Notion database. Recording the date, score, the puzzle rush URL and the URLs of the three puzzles I got wrong. So I can visualise my progress. And scrape the failed puzzles into a chessable chapter, so I can drill them later.
