In the early 1980’s, we began preparing separate spread wings to help illustrate features of birds that had never been accurately drawn. Today our collection of spread wings is the largest in the world, preserving more than 40,000 specimens.

🚨Out today in @society4conbio.bsky.social, in my new paper with @birdmapper.bsky.social, we show a positive relationship between exinction risk and colourfulness across the world's passerine birds! conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

The link between colorfulness and extinction risk across the world's passerine birds
Many of the functional traits that mediate extinction risk across the range of biodiversity relate indirectly to a species’ ability to persist in a changing world, yet certain traits such as colorati...

On a hike through the mossy montane forests of Kolombanagara, Solomon Islands, I found this incredible little grasshopper. This is a species from the genus Opiptacris, locals called them the 'rasta grasshopper'. It seems this taxon is endemic to this small island. #inverts #insects

We study evolution of birds on islands, particularly focusing on investigating the mechanisms underlying life history traits, colour, song, behaviour and morphology. We examine questions from both ultimate and proximate perspectives and combine field and comparative work.
